      Advice?

Hey everyone. I'm extremely new to LD but also extremely interested in learning how. I've read various threads, blogs, and information off of many different websites and am now just seeking advice on techniques and how to.. well just begin the LD process from experienced LD'ers. Any advice?

      Welcome to dreamviews.

I like to think learning to Dream Induce Lucid Dream (DILD) is the most essential first step in lucid dreaming. Like any technique this requires you to have good dream recall. In essence a DILD is sparking a lucid dream by realizing you're dreaming in the dream. (ie. I'm dreaming about a cow on a farm. I realize the cow has ten eyes. I say 'wait a minute, this can only happen in dreams!' and I become lucid.)

Write down every detail of every dream you have in a journal. You can also use audio recorders or post online to increase the speed since sometimes it can be time consuming to write by hand. You will notice your dreams become more frequent, more vivid and lengthy as you practice. This is a sign that you have good dream recall.

Then you'll want to identify dream signs. These are things that occur in many of your dreams (people, objects, situations, thoughts, feelings). Try and get a list of five dream signs. I write mine on an index card and carry it around in my pocket or wallet just as a subtle mental reminder. Then; whenever you see that person, have that feeling, see that object, play that game, watch that television show, you should preform a reality check (RC).

This may be you holding your nose to see if you can breath through it. Jumping to see if you stay in the air any longer than usual, examining your surroundings to assure everything is in place and normal, trying to put your hand through your palm. You'll find a million of them around this forum.

The idea is that the next time you see the person, object, ect in your dream you will automatically do one of the reality checks you do in your waking life and spark a lucid dream. Only when you have this down do I suggest you move on to one of the many techniques in the tutorials section.

Personally I started out with MILD. A lot of new LD'ers tenancies is to try and go for the big one right away-- WILD. I would avoid that until you get a somewhat regular pattern of lucid dreams.

Anyway I'll try and answer any questions you have. Hope you have a great time here, it's a wonderful forum.
