How many dreams remembered per night is a good recall.

I've been working on recalling my dreams for about a month now, and besides one really bad week, I'm typically remembering two to three per night, with my current highest being six. So what is considered an above average or good recall? Thanks for the help.

      Welcome, pastulio!

To me, good recall is more than just the number of dreams you can remember in one night. It is also the quality of the dreams and the details remembered.

Some nights I can remember a bunch of fragments from many dreams. But they lack detail. Other nights I have just one dream that I remember, but it seems to go on forever, and I can remember conversations and physical sensations, and the thoughts I was having at the time.

So while I think it is nice to be able to remember lots of dreams from one night, I get more satisfaction in being able to remember all the details in fewer dreams. And sometimes you can have both. I have had nights where I have remembered 11 or 12 dreams, and one or two of them have been very intense and long.

So as far as lucid dreaming goes, it is nice to be able to remember multiple dreams because occasionally I have a LD in which I do not wake up after wards, but go on to other dreams. In that case, being able to remember multiple dreams is very helpful. Otherwise that dream might have been lost.

But being able to wake from a dream and remember the details is the most important. I have had a couple of LDs (thankfully not many) where I have awakened and knew I was lucid , but couldn't remember very much about the dream. And that takes away all the fun, because with dreaiming, I think the memory is a big part of it. That's why I keep a dream journal. I want to hang on to my dreams and to be able to relive them by rereading them.

I'm kind of rambling on, so I hope that make sense.

I think it is great that you have been working on dream recall. And if you are remembering two to three dreams in one night you are doing very well. Have you kept a journal? And have you had lucid dreams yet?

      Good luck with your dreaming.....

Thanks. I was thinking the next part I should try to work on is remembering details and quality, which tend to vary a lot for me. I typically have a hard time remembering the early details of a long dream. It's kinda frustrating, because I'll remember a conversation or something happening, but I just can't remember what it was about.

I've been keeping a dream journal, but I sometimes get too lazy in the middle of the night to write down something, which is probably one reason that I struggle with details sometimes >_<.

I've had six LD's. I was only able to manipulate anything in maybe three though, but they are getting more detailed and vivid everytime. I also need to try to stay a bit more calm, as one ended as soon as i realized I was dreaming. Thanks again for the help.

Yes, basically what Two said. Quality is more important than quantity.

If you have really good recall, you may find that instead of multiple dreams, they are all one long dream, one leading into the next.

Everyone's advice must have helped. Last night I only had one dream, but it was the length of about three of my shorter dreams, and I was lucid for the middle part of it. I wish I had remembered the task of the month, I had plenty of chances to ask a DC what my resolution should be.

Good job! I have also noticed that reading people's suggestions helps get it into my mind and makes a difference. So I'm really glad this helped.... Keep up the good work! You'll have a chance for the task again.
