You sure you're not moving? You gotta be completely motionless, not even twitching or swallowing.

Theres a few things you can do to help even more, even though you just opposed twitching before it can actually help also reverse-blinking( basically you just open your eyes quickly once every, say 10 seconds so it keeps you awake to some degree) can help as well.

Twitching is something you would ussually do naturally in your sleep, I personally don't know that much about it, but I know it has a tendency to push you into SP, also try concentrating on a repeating non-body function (such as a clock, count the ticks) so it would take your attention away from your body, ANND don't start to wonder when the dream will come, thats pretty much like shouting at a bird you want to catch .

Look throughout the forum for more WILD-related activities you can try..

I just wait for a time that I wake up in the middle of the night, then I start reciting the alphabet or counting.

I've gotten SP, but I haven't had an LD yet. It always goes away.

I have the same trouble i lay on my back and my body is perfectly relaxed but at the same time i'm really aware of my hands, feet and the need to swallow. I sometimes feel like something is about to happen but then i get excited and my breathing changes and my hand twitches and i can't stop it. plus background noise is also annoyingit distracts me and makes me feel like ill never get to sleep (I work nights so i sleep in the day) any help for that?

Yeah, your definitely doing the right thing. keep at it, you should start seeing images near that point, or even fully entering scenes.

Yeah you should enter a dream scene, or at least get some hypnagogic imagery. I can usually get that far pretty easy. But once in the dream, I have a hard time staying there. I tend to slide back awake momentarily. But it's fun anyway.

I have a question: How long does it usually take to enter a dream once you've entered SP? And what's a good way to maintain SP?

I imagine it'll be different for everyone, but I'm having trouble maintaining SP. Last night was my record so far - about 2 minutes. But I usually have very little HI and I'm not entirely sure what to do. Last night I tried to passively observe, then, having just read the Lucid Crossroads WILD section, tried to imagine I was riding my bike and all the associated sensations. I'm getting closer with DILDs but I want to be able to WILD.

ALSO: One thing I found that helps bring on SP (and sleep generally) is a specific kind of breathing.
Inhale normally, for the exhale you give a very short push/sigh and immediately let it go and let your chest collapse and force the air out naturally. When the air stops coming out leave a pause before you start again.
Timing wise if you slowly count to 3, you inhale on 1, 2 and 3 is your exhale. The exhale is quicker than the inhale but don't force it to be too quick, find a natural rhythm and only force the breath at the very first instant. I normally get a warm rush in my legs and head when I do it.

(I always take a while to get to sleep so when I slept next to my ex girlfriends I always saw their breathing shift to this pattern when they were completely asleep. I'd experiment and hold my breath and they'd quicken their breathing and stir, so I'd adopt the sleep breathing and they'd settle back. I also found that hearing that breathing from me they'd get to sleep quicker)

Hmm, That's a hard one for me to answer. Because I don't get much of the normal SP like some people describe. Like vibrations and what not. I get the hypnotic jerk often though. I usually get HI, and enter scenes pretty quickly. Sometimes I get the floating and spinning sensations. If you keep practicing it you should be able to start entering scenes.

I guess that depends. Some people use sleep deprivation to help them to WILD. Some people just pass out when too tired. For me it's easier to keep my mind aware when I'm not so tired. Though it's harder to keep my thoughts clear long enough to slip into dream scenes.

Thats funny, I've noticed this too and it drives me crazy. It is like the breathing is a social behavior. This is the main reason I can't WILD next to my girlfriend in bed. I have to move to the guest room. It drives me nuts to hear her change her breathing when I change mine. I've also noticed that she always tries to breathe louder than me, if that makes sense. I know it is an automatic response, but it still drives me crazy.
