You won't lose any sleep doing this (as long as you can get back to sleep relatively soon). This is what I've read and from my experience.

The hardest part is not just going back to sleep when you wake up and remember something. I was good with that until the last few nights where I've been sleeping too deep, and being too tired to get up enough to jot my thoughts down.
