      LD or not?

I'm sort of new to the whole lucid dreaming thing. I'm good at dream recall, but lucidity doesn't come very easy. The past times that i had any control over my dreams, the images were really vague, and what's weird is, I don't feel like i'm in the dream, i'm very aware that i'm just lying in bed. The dreams aren't vivid or real, and i don't feel a part of them at all. Is that how lucid dreams are supposed to be in the beginning?

When beginning to lucid dream, it's normal for the dreams to not be very vivid or real. Common ways of increasing clarity are to rub your hands together, spin, or even yell out "Lucidity 100%!" They also start to naturally get more vivid as you have more of them. If you don't feel as if you are a part of the dream, once you realize you are dreaming, do everything you can to just STOP. Then do a reality check or one of the things mentioned earlier. Good luck, and don't get discouraged.

I think Pastulia about covered it all. But remember, it takes lots of practice to get good at LD'ing, yet the more dreams you have, the more vivid they can become! Just don't get descouraged, it took me around a year and a half to have my first extremely-clear lucid dream! (I am still a newbie though, so that could have been pure luck. )

It sounds like you are distracted by being aware of your real body in bed. Try doing something to engage with your dream environment. Touching something and really focusing on what its texture feels like will normally do it for me.

With practice, you should become more comfortable with it, and you will not have that half-awake feeling where you can feel yourself back in bed.
