      Another newbie - me!

Hello, I'm new and just wanted to say hello! I am very interested in sleep and dreaming. I did my uni dissertation on the relationship between dreams and real life. I did want to study lucid dreams but wasn't allowed

I find it extremely difficult to have a lucid dream, and have only ever had a few. I have never really controlled a dream though - this is something I would love to do.

Any help would be very appreciated!

      Thanks

I would be interested in hearing more about your dissertation. Did you come up with anything good?

If you want to get lucid more often, be sure to check out the tutorials section:

Dissertation? Psychology? You could be a major contributer to DV, doctor

I guess that the tutorials section has been mentioned twice so: we have bananas!

      Thanks everyone!

Yes, I will check out the tutorials and start from the begninng I think! I have a feeling this will be a long journey for me, I really am a beginner even though I have been trying to become lucid for years! The only thing I am good at is remembering dreams, but I guess it's a start.

Yes, my dissertation came up with a few results in continuity with each other which backs up the results themselves!

The main findings were that the content of dreams usually relates to an event in the day that hasn't been thought about or talked about in real life enough. Dreams seem to aid coming to terms with aspects of life in some cases. The participants in my study often dreamed strange versions of events that took place in real life, almost as if the brain was practising situations and preparing itself for real life events.

I took part in my own study alongside my participants and found that myself and my husband actually dreamed the same dream on the same night. The dream seemed to reflect both of our shared concerns about an ex boyfriend at the time!

Thanks again for your kind messages, speak soon

I've always thought that this would be the best path to a real shared dreaming experiment. Get people to sync up their daily activities and concerns, and then try to incubate the same dream. It doesn't seem like it would be that difficult, especially for people who spend all day together.

I imagine myself and my girlfriend on vacation, together 24 hours a day, doing the same things, seeing the same things, and having the same worries.

Excellent! Good idea - I would very much like to have more dreams in sync with my husband, it's very interesting and sort of illustrates how dreams can be an extension of the mind's excercise and contemplation.

I'll let you know if we have another synched-up dream - my husband and I do spend alot of time together and have very much the same concerns so hopefully it will happen again!
      Always question reality...
      Lucid Goals:
      1. Build up my dream recall and become extremely lucid
      2. Find a magic wand and start casting spells
      3. Fly (of course) but also create stupidly high slides up in the air with the clouds and ride on them until I get bored
      4. Practice karate with a pro
