      Self hypnosis?

I have been hearing about a technique where you become perfectly relaxed and when you are at that point, you can teach yourself new things like throwing a football or playing the guitar. I only know it as being called self hypnosis and google hasn't been very helpful. If anybody know information on this and/or if it actually works that would be greatly appreciated.
      Thanks in advance.

I'm sorry I don't know what technique you are talking about. I've referred your question to others on the staff.

Hope one of us can help!

I do know what you are talking about. THeres a technique in the tutorial section. I use it for self-affirmations when trying to MILD.

Its not really a "hypnosis", just a way of getting nice and relaxed and hopefully making it easier to tell yourself something.

Real life skills are best practiced in real life, but I find it useful for boosting recall, or getting back into RC habits

You can use hypnosis to overcome fear or do something mental, but throwing a football and playing a guitar require muscle memory and coordination. The only way to gain those are to do it physically.

I know Iadr has been doing a lot of self hypnosis. He does not post very much anymore, but you can probably PM him for some tips.

I also do a lot of self hypnosis. It helps me deal with my anxiety. I also use it to recall dreams.

Do you have a set routine you follow, Lumi? What kind of relaxation tricks do you use to get into that trance state?

Yes, pretty much. I lie down on a sofa or bed, close my eyes and let them roll upwards a little into a certain spot. I focus on my breathing, and I start to count each breath as I exhale. If I lose my count, I start back at one. I relax both my body and my mind a little more by each breath. I usually start seeing green swirling colors after lying like this for a few minutes, sometimes less. As I notice that I'm no longer feeling my body, or parts of it, and I feel deeply relaxed and comfortable, and "let go", stopping the counting, and focusing on nothing. If any thoughts are running through my head, they will be incoherent and dreamlike. If I'm sleepy and about to enter REM sleep, I will now start to see vivid HI, and I can choose my dream before it starts. (WILD)

When I'm in that trance state, I also have no sense of time. I take myself out of the trance when I feel good and ready to, by moving a few fingers while I feel my consciousness start to shift into wakefulness, and I open my eyes.

my friend knows how to do that. or at least i believe I've heard him refer to self-hypnosis and that the technique is used to be really relaxed, he just made an account here, once i figure out what the name is, i'll tell him to write somethin about it

There's a self hypnosis technique call MILD as someone already said.
But i think you meant a WILD, where you go completely relaxed, enter the dream and then you learn things easier in the dreams. This is very good explained in "Exploring THe World Of Lucid Dreaming"

I've had a good amount of experience with hypnosis, and a little with self-hypnosis. I had been getting normally hypnotized (as part of a club at school, so it was for fun, not therapy) for a long time and I became used to the trance state. My hypnotist often used the technique where the "wave of trance" crawls up your body from the feet to the neck and head, which I believe others have mentioned.

After in the trance state, the hypnotist offers suggestions like "When I snap my fingers you will become a secret agent" (as a side note: it's impossible for a hypnotist to force you to do something you aren't comfortable with). When he snaps his fingers, all of my thoughts are suddenly focused on secret agents and nothing else. I begin remembering obscure bits from a James Bond movie I saw three years ago, and this intense awareness of "secret agent" allows me to act out the part very effectively, after all, I'm a very physical person so I tend to act out what I'm thinking anyway and having your brain flooded with the thoughts of "secret agent" tends to have an extreme version of this effect.

      Now, in terms of self-hypnosis...
I was acting in a school play and on opening night I decided to try some self-hypnosis. I imagined my hypnotist's voice in my head first getting me into a trance, then giving the suggestion that I become my character. This was a huge help, because when I "became" my character my mind was flooded with all his little personality traits and quirks as well as all of his lines and accent.

The long and short of it is, self-hypnosis for the purpose of learning can only reacquaint you with what you already know. If you don't understand fingerings or strumming then you won't learn guitar with the technique, but if you've had a few lessons but are still kind of shaky then self-hypnosis might allow you to focus your mind on it and get better quickly.

I'm sorry if this post is abnormally long, and doubly sorry if it doesn't make sense. Feel free to ask if you need a clarification or anything .

      Thanks for this Luminous!
I've tried this a few nights now and i find it really relaxing, i feel so much closer to my first WILD now! See, my original problem was the ability to stay still for along enough periods of time for WILDing to kick in, but this technique has helped me a lot! Got my first set of vibrations last night using the technique, i cant remember anything after that, i'm guessing i just fell asleep.

      Self Hypnosis

Hypnosis has been around for centuries & is very affective for all manner of issues.I really learned a lot from the hypnosis and is excellent for finding root causes of issues-
      1All hypnosis is self hypnosis.
      2. The hypnotist is a guide who watches your response and gives suggestions to improve the trance level.
      3. The hypnotist designs suggestions to reach your goal. And gives the suggestions overtly or covertly.
      4. Brings you back to full waking consciousness in a manor that is comfortable and leaves you willing to regain good trance level at a proper time.
