You can get all kinds of weird hallucinations when you're on the edge of sleep, like that. Your dream starts overlapping with the real world, and things get real weird real fast. Last night, I felt like the front left side of my scalp was on fire. It felt completely real, and I worried for a second that I would wake up with half my hair missing.
WILDing is all about learning to induce this state, and staying calm through it. Next time this happens, keep a curious mind state and try to prolong it or play with it. See if you can slip back and forth between awake and asleep, hovering on the edge of sleep.
