      getting there

I'm quite new to DV but think i had a lucid dream last night. my little brother was talking and i realized i was dreaming because he is only two. the thing is, i tried to walk through a mirror but then everything went slippery, and then i blacked out. Can anyone explain what happened?
      thanks in advance

That definitely sounds like a lucid dream- as long as you knew you were dreaming, it was a LD. So congrats And, of course, welcome

There's no real explanation for why you woke up. I personally have had trouble getting through mirrors, though it's never woken me up. If this was one of your early lucids, it may just take some practice and getting used to. More often, good habits in the day will help you have better lucids at night (for DILDs). When reality checking during the day (if you do) try to incorporate elements of stabilization into it, so that your first instinct upon becoming lucid is "I have to stabilize my dream so that I stay in it".

Just try to keep in mind, that when you first become lucid you should always stabilize the dream and do some reality checks, just to make sure that your mind is nice and awake and logical. Also remember that, if you DO wake up, you can always try to DEILD. This is far easier, for me at least, when you've just woken up from a lucid dream.

Your dreams should get more stable as you get more experience in the lucid state. You may have just confused yourself by trying to do something too foreign that required too much imagination. For your next lucid, try to do something simple that keeps the dream stable. Maybe just take a walk around your neighborhood inspecting everything closely. Or fly around a little and find someone to talk to. It sounds boring, but I guarantee something wacky will happen.

Yea, even if it's boring, marveling at how incredibly realistic it can be (to the point that it's so much like RL that you're bored) is, in itself, fascinating!

Nice job on your lucid dream. Things spun out of control because your brain was turning on the part of the brain that deals with logic. It didn't know what to make of your new-found state of consciousness and needed to analyze it. This required the logical centre of the brain to turn on, which make things go ary and woke you up. With a few more dreams under your belt, this will not happen anymore. Cheers. and
