Didn't know where else to place this, PLUS I'm new.

Been lucid dreaming for years. A few times a week actually, mainly due to my discussing dreams and altered states almost daily. Anyhow, had a thought the other day and found very little in the way of a Google search.

When one imagines something, they can visually place an object in front of their vision, and it appears as a floating, see-through object (much like a transparency sheet). Dreams, similarly, seem to have varying degrees of transparency depending on the vividness of the experience. Is it possible, then, that the dreams (as well as hallucinations and visual thoughts) exist as a tangible sheet of colors and patterns on the atomic level?

No. Dreams are simply hallucinations brought to existence by the sense-deprived brain.

Ah, we could argue on that until the end of time, but I agree with the last guy; it's just not possible (at least, not in the reality we inhabit, or perceive to inhabit). A good idea, though; try posting this on the philosophy forum...

I have never had a dream where anything is transparent.

When I say transparent, I don't necessarily mean that while dreaming, the visuals aren't solid. It seems more like the memory of it is. However, I have had numerous psuedo-dreams in which I was in a slightly conscious state, and it seemed that those visuals were transparent.

like you can see certain objects but not a broad picture? That has happened to me in a lot of my dreams. Where I only see active objects like people but not an actual landscape

Eh, sorta. It's hard to explain what I mean, but I see my visual thoughts, hallucinations and dreams as a sheet that hangs over my vision, almost like a filter. The dreams are more solid but I kind of doubt it ever achieves full solidity, which again is probably an after-effect of recalling the dream's images.

This is why I see these images as a sheet of abstract color/shapes/lines, which our eyes display as a secondary function.

An interesting theory, but I doubt it.
