      My Dreams: Which are Lucid?

In terms of dreams mine are all over the map. I basically have 3 types.

      Fully aware Dreams:
These are my rarer type dreams, but they are most commonly dreams that involve saving someone (always a girl) or a situation that has me in a huge amount of danger. I ALWAYS become self aware once I'm attacked by someone....80% of the time its being shot and realizing I'm not dead...but rather invincible! Which is really satisfying and definitly my favorite dreams. I get shot then go on to kick some major ass! I feel like superman! The best part is when I realize I'm dreaming but have no weapon in my hand yet... depending on how I feel, I either simple give myself a weapon or decided to go bare knuckle boxing. lol. The dream keeps going until I save the girl in distress or I simply end the threat on my life. I'm pretty sure this is a Lucid dream....

these though...I'm not so sure of:

      3rd person dreams:
I basically dream myself acting in ways I would never act in real life but I'm fully aware I'm dreaming. I'm merely there as an observer. Sometimes... I mean maybe 20% of the time... I can influence what I do in the dream, but I'm still there as an observer. Picture playing Diablo or any sort of RPG game...you are just manipulating a character in the game. That perfectly discribes this type of dream.

      Awake but not awake:
Had one last night and it completely sucked! I was up at 1am and couldn't get back to sleep until 4am! I finished having a regular dream, one that I wasn't aware I was dreaming until I started the 2nd dream. Kind of like finishing a movie then starting a second movie but being fully aware they are two separate movies unrealated to each other. Hope that isn't confusing.
Anyway, the second dream started off like I was awake in my bed facing the wall of my room, opposite side of my door. I became aware because in my mind i was "awake" but I realised I wasn't because my vision was still blurry and what not. So normally in this situation I just try and open my eyes to wake up and "Reset" if you will. I do this because if I don't this is normally followed by a very intense feeling of anger, fear, frustration and the feeling like I'm about to be attacked. So I kept trying but it wasn't working. At this point I started to feel like something was pressing down on my enitre body...something very heavy. I kept trying to wake up; I should say I accomplish this by Rolling my eyes to the back of my head...normally very effective. It was still not working and it took a turn for the worse. Still with that heavy feeling I start to sense the pressence of some girl by the door of my room. Very angry and threating like she was about to attack me. In any normal case of dreaming I could roll around to see that this situation is utterly messed up and instantly wake up. In this dream though I'm paralysed completely, other than eye movement. I then start hearing a voice, very clearly I might add,"Open your eyes and turn around! Open your eyes and Turn around!!". It was calm but had some authority to it and it was definitly not my voice. Eventually I get so angry and frustrated that I can't wake myself up from this horrible feeling I yelled out,"For F@#$ sakes!". I awake and realize I'm facing my door with my eyes open already...but the messed up thing...that girl has not faded from my vision yet...and she was seething at me, like I had ruined her plan. Took maybe only 10seconds for her to fade but it was probably the scariest thing I've ever seen in my life. My heart was racing for 2 hours, I could not calm down.

Is that lucid or something entirely different?... I've looked it up and I don't see anywhere with Lucid dreaming having hallucinations once you are actually awake.

hi! anytime you know everything around you isn't real and that it's a dream, and you were "there", you can say you've had a lucid dream.

Is that lucid or something entirely different?... I've looked it up and I don't see anywhere with Lucid dreaming having hallucinations once you are actually awake.
that's called a hypnopompic hallucination- that is a hallucination that you get after waking up from a dream where the mind can't fully make sense of stuff

How can we know if it's lucid? If you were aware, then it was lucid

Welcome to Dreamviews! It is only a lucid dream, if during the dream, you knew you were dreaming. That is the only criteria for a lucid dream. If you knew you were dreaming (whether you did anything or not) it is a lucid dream. So, congrats on achieveing lucidity!

All three of those are types of lucid dreams. Any dream where you know you are dreaming is considered a lucid dream. Generally, people aim for the first type you described. Those dreams tend to be the most satisfying. I really like the second type. I find you can come up with some really epic stories when you remain a little detatched from the dream.

The third type of dream you described, could be sleep paralysis. Like yuri mentioned, you can have all kinds of wacky hallucinations as you are going into or out of sleep. Common symptoms of sleep paralysis are the inability to move (obviously), the feeling of a threatening presence in the room, and a weight on your chest. It is cool that you have already realized this is a great opportunity to score some awesome dreams. Just relax through it, take a deep breath, and you could launch directly into a WILD (Wake Initiated Lucid Dream). Don't try to shake yourself awake. Instead, relax, visualize a dreamscape you would like to enter, and think happy, positive thoughts.
