Just passively listen/watch any HH you may have. Eventually the HI should began to form in full blown scenes/visions. At this point you are very close and you can either try to form your own scene (like you did before) or sit back for a bit longer and allow the dream to form itself.

As for the best times to WILD, for WBTB I suggest trying after 4+ hours of sleep. The most popular time seems to be after 6 hours of sleep. The further along into sleep you are, the longer your REM periods last. For naps, I suggest 1-5 hours after waking in the morning. I, personally, like to WILD during naps. Simply because I am too lazy to do WBTBs most of the time.

Well, good luck to you!
Question, have you ever been able to do these two at one night?
This night I want to do a normal WBTB and in the morning a nap, but maybe you havn't had any succes with it and it will be just a waste of time.

And about the WILD, I think it's very difficult. However my WILD experience was intenser then the "normal" LD's. The feeling was very strong. I think you just have to be very calm, try to meditate first.
