REM while relaxing ? Is it possible

      Hi all,

Yesterday I totally relaxed my body using tense/relax muscles technic, then I went into breath awareness for about 10-15 min.

At some point, when my body felt completely numb but my mind was well awake, I remember I told myself :'' wow I got it!'' when I felt a connection to something else. I was pretty much aware of the experience. The small flashes of lights stopped and It became totally dark and I almost felt like I was levitating. Then my eyelids started to freak out !

I have a small light in the room, and I could see the light of the room through the opening of my eyelid and it totally shut off my feeling of well being and control.

My question is, is it normal that my eyelids starts moving like this ? Why is it doing that ? I know it can't be REM because It was only about 30 min since the beginning of my relaxation.

Thanks a lot for your help.

I am pretty sure it WAS REM. Rem can begin immediately at sleep onset. You should see if you can repeat this.

While it could be REM, it could also be your body trying to test you to see if you are still conscious while you are in SP.

      Good stuff!

This is exactly what i experienced when i tried to enter a dream when first going to sleep. I wrote about it here. http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...ad.php?t=88236

The part you are talking about when you say your eyes twitch. That happened to me, and they actually opened without me trying. They opened while i was visualizing me being in my bed so i thought it was a dream, but it was still reality. Hard to explain.

I've heard of this happening during naps, and I've also heard of it happening in people with major depression. But I always thought that at the beginning of the night, you had to go through a lengthy non-REM cycle first. This intrigues me... More info?
