Knowledge That Would Save a Lot of Time.

I think it would be a great idea to post things that you have learned that would have saved you a lot of time If you learned them earlier.

      Ill start.

      1. Its very challenging to WILD at bedtime. You dont start dreaming until 5-6 hours of sleeping. It is only worth your time to try a WILD after waking up in the middle of the night or in the morning.

      2. The nose-pinch reality check is the most effective in my opinion. Dont try any reality check that requires any mental effort, because you wont be thinking logically in your dreams.

      3. It will SAVE time to have a dream journal. You will start having lucid dreams sooner if you recognize what your dreams are like sooner.

      4. Dont try anything exciting at first. Although you may want to be superman and fly when you first become lucid, Its much better to simply observe the environment at first and become comfortable with being in a dream before trying to do something exciting.

      5. You cant WILD if you are waiting for something to happen. Dont lie in bed for hours waiting to be in a dream because by waiting, you are preventing yourself from sleeping.

      6. You wont attain sleep paralysis by moving. If you feel the urge to roll over, or move to a more comortable position, it is your body testing you to se if you are asleep. If you move you will wake up.

Well, actually you can WILD before bed, it's just harder, you can also WILD during naps. Sleep Paralysis can work if you move or roll over, some techniques like Yoshi's WILD technique actually requires that you roll over.

Yes, these things can work, but only after alot of experience. For starting out its better to keep it simple until you can attain sleep paralysis and WILD and then go from there.

Well, this varies from person to person. I've heard many people say that the nose-pinch RC doesn't work for them.

Dont try any reality check that requires any mental effort, because you wont be thinking logically in your dreams.
I don't know about this. I've had non-lucids where I was thinking just as logically as if I were awake. Especially if I'm just about to become lucid. (Although, you're right that most of the time dream logic can differ wildly from real logic.)

      4. Dont try anything exciting at first. Although you may want to be superman and fly when you first become lucid, Its much better to simply observe the environment at first and become comfortable with being in a dream before trying to do something exciting.
I can't speak for everybody, but when I first started LDing I was able to fly and do other exciting things from the beginning. It doesn't really matter how experienced you are, it matters how much you believe you can do it. (With some exceptions, of course.)

For every WILD attempt, record the following -

When you went to bed -
When you woke up and tried to WILD -
What you did after you woke up before attempting a WILD, and how long you stayed up and about before lying down again
What position you attempted to WILD in -

All of these will help you pin-point your ideal times to WILD.

with enthusiasm which elevates me to heaven; for nothing contributes so much to tranquillise the mind as a steady purpose--a point
on which the soul may fix its intellectual eye."

I think it's a really bad thing to say "you can never do x"; the thing that makes LDing harder, in my opinion, is creating a mindset like this. Even more in this case, that it's actually possible WILDing before sleeping. Don't forget that practice leads to experience.

I disagree on 6. too, I already tried being 2 hours in the same position and nothing changed. If I were a newbie I would think "if I stay in the same position I certainly will get the WILD!", which is false. Like Xyster said, Yoshi does WILD moving. Worrying is what fucks WILD.

If i go to sleep at around 11pm and i set my alarm for 3am, will this still work?

Its kind of funny because in my first lucid dream I didnt believe I was dreaming because I thought it was too real. Then I took off flying like neo. It was amazingly fun. But, like most first lucid dreams, I couldnt maintain it very long due to excitement. Of course anyone can do exciting things like flying when they start out, but it will end dreams if you are not comfortable and used to being in a dream.

Thats a great point that worrying will ruin a WILD, but so will waiting for it to happen. If youre waiting in the same position for two hours, its not enough to get sleep paralysis. Relaxing and letting your mind wander help you avoid waiting for it to happen.

Yoshis technique has never worked for me. I always wake up after rolling over, but I find it easy to enter sleep paralysis by just ignoring the urge to roll over and relaxing. I basically use his technique without moving at all.
