Exclamation JUST started. I might need a little help.

Okay, so, I recently heard about lucid dreaming through one of my personal reading books (WAKE by Lisa McMann). I was very interested, looked up "lucid dreaming" on Google and it directed me here, where I read the entire website and learned ALOT. This whole topic sound pretty interesting.
I tried it last night and it didn't work. And I'm not saying it should work since it's my first night trying to induce it, but I've had a handful of lucid dreams before I discovered what it really was. I thought it was normal.
I think the problem was, it might sound weird but, I only actually dream when my headphones are in and I'm listening to music. Any kind of music, but I HAVE to listen to music when I sleep. Now, I'm wondering if that affects my lucidity. So, does it? And also... I sometimes have problems with Dream Recall. Is there anyway to improve that? My dream journal is looking pretty empty, haha. Thanks guys.

Sweet!! You've read WAKE?!? Was it good? I've been meaning to read it for a few months now.

About your recall problems, read this tutorial on recall. It should help you a bit.

I'm sort of like you about music. I have it on when I sleep, but I've found I can sleep without it, although it's rare when I do. The majority, if not all of my Lucids were had with music in the background, but it didn't affect my Lucidity at all. I say if you can only sleep while music is playing, then your mind will probably adapt. Might I ask why you have to listen to music?

Yes, Wake is an extremely good book(: I read it in less then 3 hours I'm sure I'd totally recommend it.

I'll check out that tutorial, thank you!

      That's a relief... Haha.
And I listen to music because... Well, it's my life. Haha, I participate in every in school and after school program involved with music. I'm in a band. I just absolutely love music, so I think of listening to music while sleeping, as the soundtrack of my dreams(:

I almost always fall asleep listening to various different playlists. They usually end within an hour, but I have never had trouble dreaming or sleeping or lucid dreaming. This is more a matter of recall than the music actually doing anything, unless you're taking it to some excessive level.

Personally, I've found that if I go lucid while listening to some form of music, the dream is a lot clearer, and somehow relates to the music itself, but it takes longer to reach the dream stage. That's just how it works for me, though; you may have a totally different experience. However, there's no way to get around the fact that some songs will induce a dream better/worse than others...maybe you should check out the Audio Aids for Lucid Dreaming and use one or some of them.

Another thing I think you might find helpful is using Sleep Paralysis to get to sleep without music. I used to frequently run into times when I couldn't fall asleep, but after learning how to induce sleep paralysis, I can just fall asleep whenever I try.

Hope these help you get lucid soon!

If listening to music makes it easier to fall asleep, or makes your dreams better, go for it. You could even use it to your advantage by listening to something like binaural beats or a subliminal message track.

Sometimes it's easier for me to fall asleep to a calm, sleepy piece of music. I try to pick something without lyrics though, so they don't affect the dream any (unless I want them too ).
