      Hello!

      Hi everyone!
I just stumbled on this website after reading about it on another forum. I am developing an interest in lucid dreaming again because of some interesting experiences recently.
As a child, I dreamed frequently and vividly, and I found it hard to distinguish between reality and my dreams. I was able to control some of my dreams and fly, but I haven't flown in a really long time.
These days I still have vivid dreams, and I usually remember them, taking note of unusual ones. But I am very afraid sometimes, even afraid to fall asleep.
Last week I had an experience of being awake almost all night long (trying to get to sleep, drifting in and out of consciousness), and all of a sudden my entire body started buzzing/vibrating while I was lying on my side. This scared me because I did not want to have an OBE (due to fear) and I started praying and the feeling suddenly went away.
I also had a dream in which I was in a dimly lit apartment in which the light switch would not turn on. In my dream I realized, "Oh, no .... I'm dreaming!" I was not happy with this realization and I felt like I was being watched in the apartment, like someone was watching me through the blinds. The dream shifted into another dream.
I am looking forward to checking out the tutorials. Any tips or insight on dealing with fear would be much appreciated. I don't if I should have posted this somewhere else on this forum...
      Thanks!

Welcome to Dreamviews! That buzzing/vibrating you felt was SP setting in. It is quite normal to have a sense of fear during SP. It just takes a bit of practice and will power to overcome. Alot of the fear felt during a lucid is a fear of the unknown (not knowing what will happen next/what you will see, feel, or hear/etc.). With time and practice you will get more used to lucidity and the fear will fade. Try some simple reassurance once you begin to feel the fear. Remind yourself that you are dreaming and nothing can harm you. Just keep practicing and trying to make more and more progress with each dream and I'm sure you will be able to easily overcome the fear. Good Luck to you and I definately suggest you check out the tutorials section here (link is in my signature). Lots of good info!

Hey there!! Welcome to the forum...reminds me of my first post. (verymuch!)

Similar to you I had very vivid dreams as a child and lots of lucids...then my dreams changed and instead of being light and full of wonder, an odd element seemed to creep in...for a while! Fear not!! I too would have those jolts of energy lying in bed. One of the realizations that helped me most was the understanding that (save for a burglar breaking in) everything i experienced at night were merely manifestations of my own self. Every feeling, dream character, sensation....and trust they are all very "real" in terms of experience....eminated from my own being. Being able to hold this thought while in a dream and bathing in the wonder of how that could be possible and yet, be so much more real than I could imagine, yeah....words can't describe!!! My best advice would be remind yourself of this, take a breath, and prepare to enjoy.

With a little effort you will be able to influence your dreams, gain understanding into their nature, and in time achieve hightened levels of awareness and seas of other-worldly experience!!

Thank you all for welcoming me!
I really used to love dreaming and then something changed...fear set in. I had some terrifying SP experiences about hmmm, maybe 20 years ago, that made me scared to sleep on my back, for fear of a recurrence. Only recently have I started sleeping on my back again.
I'll give it some time and practice while gaining some knowlege in the meantime. I miss the awesome dreams that I really didn't want to end!

I used to sleep on my back ALL the time, lol, guess we're the opposite. I haven't had a ton of LDs(only one), but, I always try to keep in mind that it's a dream and that SP is all hallucinations and it's nothing to be scared of

BTW, welcome to the forums and enjoy your stay. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them

Just the knowledge that it is nothing harmful and is actually very fun should be enough! The vibrating is SP setting in and this feels awesome to me.

It is also my opinion that OBEs are just highly vivid LDs. There is no factual evidence to support either side but just no that NOTHING about it is harmful to you, even if it were real.

      You'll wake up feeling fine.

Thanks, jarrhead, I was wondering what the difference between OBEs and LDs was. The vibrating just seemed to happen spontaneously and I just got a really strong feeling that I was going to have an OBE/go astral traveling. Which can be very fun but I was not ready for it, it wasn't something that I wanted at that time. Now I wonder what would have happened if I just went with it. I guess I just need to remember that I am safe, no matter what. It definitely feels so very real at the time!

Does anyone have any thoughts on dreams in green backgrounds? Like when everything is a varying shade of mid to dark green? What does that mean? I've had a couple that were surreal. In one of them I was being chased by a few people and I ended up jumping to the top of a building to escape. In another one I was sitting in some very fast moving cart (the kind that amusement parks have). Someone pushed it to move downwards and then it made some quick turns at right angles. This happened several years ago, the green dreams are rare for me.

Well, I don't know about your beliefs, and we may not be the same since you believe in OBEs and I don't, but there really is no meaning to dreams. They are just what your mind is thinking about at the time.

An OBE is a dream where you think you've actually left your body. An LD is a dream where you know you are dreaming. Both can happen through SP. The green dreams most likely mean nothing.
      I'm back!

Thanks for the clarification, YYNYM. For some reason, it's reassuring to hear that the green dreams most likely mean nothing.
I haven't noticed SP setting in since two weeks ago. Lately I sense myself falling deeper and deeper, and then I'm asleep.

Usually my ears ring as I fall asleep, and sometimes I get swirling images in black and white, or I see a very neat cursive script, like from a typewriter. It has been difficult at times trying to fall asleep while I'm seeing these intense images (they're not frightening at all), and there's a subtle humming in my mind when it happens. I wonder if anyone else seen something like this while they're trying to fall asleep?

I read on this forum in one of the tutorials about changing your focus if something undesirable happens in your dream. While I was dreaming last night I think I remembered this, but it wasn't a lucid dream since I didn't think "I am dreaming". I happened upon a disturbing scene in my dream, and instead of getting scared, I looked away a little bit/changed my focus and it faded away. I think it's awesome that it worked!

Oceanblue, those pictures you're seeing are perfectly normal and that is, infact, part of SP kicking in. At night, of course. In the morning it's terrible.

Mine are strobe lights accompanied by vibrations and a huge amplification of my tinnitus as if somebody was playing the ringing through a speaker.

Wow it's so cool what SP is (or I think it is)! I remember whenever I get it I hear tones of random voices that create a whole static sea. I don't see anything though. I've never got 'em in the morning is it the more you have 'em the more you get 'em in the morning?

I've had a voice of a classroom of kids talking very loud once.

In the morning it is a sleep disorder. A part of your brain ,big word i don't remember, is the center of rage and fear. It activates during morning SP. Plus, your eyes are open so you see your room with hallucinations.

That's good to know, jarrhead, thank you. Your experience sounds much more intense than mine. I appreciate hearing about other people's experiences because no one I am close to has ever mentioned experiencing SP or going lucid!

Most people think you're insane. That's what DV is for!

Mine are ALL of the following at once, always.

Intense full-body vibrations, loud high-pitched noise, dangerous visuals... things that cause ceizures.

Yeah thanks jarrhead I'm sorry you get them, and now I'm a little more afraid of SP, but it's still nice to now.

Well I don't. It would be terrible if it happened to him! Cause they happen every night, just some nights you aren't aware cause you're not thinking.
