I guess I'll just have to try it out. I have tried DEILDing before, and have gotten into sleep paralysis twice. I tried to WILD nap one day and almost got into sleep paralysis... it's all so fun.
In order to DEILD (w/o being lucid in the previous dream), you have to "catch" yourself waking up. If you become aware/conscious as you are waking up, then this would be an excellent time to DEILD. Before you are even fully awake (as you are waking up), stay completely still and keep your eyes closed. It should only take a couple minutes (at the most) to transition, so if you didn't re-enter the dream state, it probably failed and you can give a WBTB WILD a shot. DEILDs are also great for chaining lucids. If you have a lucid dream and you feel yourself waking up/the dream becomes unstabile and start to wake up, just prepare to DEILD and you can go right back into a lucid dream. Also, if you have one of those experiences where you become lucid right at the end of a dream, a DEILD can be performed to extend that lucidity.
I would suggest you go ahead and try the DEILD...if you haven't re-entered a dream after a few minutes, go ahead and change your focus to WILD (WBTB).
