So I suck at lucid dreaming.

Why? because for the past month ½ I've been attempting lucid dreaming, before I go to bed at night, and by using the WILD technique by waking up 5-8 hours after I have fallen asleep. The deal is, with this WILD technique, I can do it before I hit the sack for the night...but, after waking up 5-8 hours later, then trying to hit sleep paralysis, and what not..I can't do that. I usually fall asleep. I need tips to go to the next plateau..
Tips to keep myself barely awake, so I can experience true Lucid Dreaming.

With this practice though, I've gained the ability to remember my dreams vividly. More than I could before I started this goal of mine.

Again, could someone give me tips on how to stay awake after waking up for the WILD technique?

      OR

Tell me what I'm doing wrong?
      Thanks!

NO! You do not suck at lucid dreaming! Never say that! Nobody sucks at dreaming. Its something we as humans can all do. Thats the real beauty about lucid dreaming.
Try DEILD, a sub-wild technique. Mix it with DILD.
Do RCs throughout the day, and stay very alert. That'll help for your awareness in dreams.

Well, if I were you, I wouldn't go for 8 hours.
4.5 hours to 6 hours would do.

But anyways. Yea, if WILD is the way you want to go, then DEILD might be the one for you, if you find that you can't stay awake.

Basically, when you wake up, just stay super still, don't move any muscles (Try not to move your eyes either), then drift back into the dream, except remain conscious.

A good way to remain conscious is to keep saying in your mind "This is a dream, this is a dream, this is a dream, ...", then by the time you are in the dream, you will still be saying that to yourself.

Concerning the dream journal, No, I have not.
I usually have great dream recall, for the dreams I remember..So I tend not to write about them. BUT, if it helps, I will! (:

It's probably better to keep a DJ. In the past, I would randomly remember dreams, in some cases, it would be one a month or so. Ever since I started writing in my DJ and really was interested in doing so, my recall has spiked. I know remember pretty much a dream a night, sometimes two. There are cases where they are short since I don't recall much details but there are some dreams that are pretty long, so, it's a hit and miss. As for the topic at hand, well, no one really does. It all depends on self-confidence and if you work towards it. You can have LDs just based on self-confidence if you are able to really convince yourself that you will get one. Basically, get that thought out of your mind and as for your WBTB, 4-6hr is the recommended amount. I found that for me 6hr or so is the best time since I just fall back asleep at 4hr in. Good luck

Try changing your timing slightly. Push your WBTB back a few minutes every night until you can wedge it in right before a REM cycle. This way, you won't have to wait long for your WILD to succeed.

Ok, I tried to WILD/WBTB today. I believe I would have had it if I didn't have a stuffed up nose! Ughhh, I can't stand breathing out of my mouth when I try to sleep...It gets all dry and makes me give up. I wasn't to tired, and I lasted a long time just sitting there doing nothing..but nothinhg happened because I could not concentrate...on nothing. If that makes sense. FML and my nose. I will give it another try.

For the DJ, I will start one i suppose.

      BornLiveDie,

As was stated earlier - "you don't suck at this", nobody does. It takes time and practice. I have yet to have what I would classifiy as a real lucid dream (maybe a lucid fragment), but what I find amazing is that once I started really keeping a dream journal, my recall of dreams has increased, where I usually in the past never even gave them a thought unless they were troubling dreams.

I believe that the dream journal will become your best friend through this process (well along with these folks here too). I've finally gotten over my laziness of not recording the dream right after I've had them. Plus, it helps to keep me awake a little longer before I go back to bed. Recall is much better that way, too.

I realize that I'm fairly new to the subject and like I pointed out haven't really had a lucid dream as yet, so I don't have a lot concrete experience "lucidly" to give you, but I'm really having fun just being able to recall (and in some instances relive) the dreams. This helps you to become aware of what is and isn't reality in the sleeping world.

Also, keep in mind, the reason you're doing reality checks during the day is to program your subconscious mind to do them while asleep. If you tell yourself "you suck at this" long enough, you'll program your subconscious to believe that too. So put that thought out of your mind immediately. You'll do fine at this.

      Happy dreams all..
