Man holds up Discovery Channel building

A developing story, I only just refreshed the page and now apparently they've shot the guy/killed him.

      But regardless,

      Police kill Discovery building gunman - U.S. news - Crime & courts - msnbc.com

      His demands:

      My Demands

      Wow. What.

Basically it looked like this guy was looking to stop the human race with Discovery Channel's help.

      What a creep.

And besides, what made him think that the Discovery channel could single-handedly save the planet? Why did he place so much direct responsibility on them, a TV channel, and not our government (which hasn't taken the environment seriously since Reagan)?

I can't help but sympathize with him.I agree with him in the sense that high birth rates are a big problem.Poor guy,I feel sad for his death, but it was really unintelligent from his part to try to save the planet with a few hostages and think it would work.

I don't usually post in off-topic(or anywhere outside my DJ),but I felt the need to say something about this.

The Discovery channel programming does really suck now. A lot of the shows are dumbed down and there are SOOO many repeats (I swear if I see another repeat of Destroyed in Seconds I'll block the channel). TLC (owned by discovery) is even worse. It used to be cool in the 90s, when it actually was "The Learning Channel", now it's all about midgets and hyperfertile moneywhores.

Yes I can't help but feel sympathy, he doesn't appear to have had malicious intent. Certainly people have done much worse things in the name of less worthy 'greater causes'.

      I agree 100%

How is Destroyed in Seconds educational, anyways?

The real problem was probably the fact that his hair dryer broke and he decided to use his microwave oven.

I support terroism, with just one small stipulation--that they first demonstrate the effectiveness of their ordinances on themselves first. If they do work, and they die, well hell, I don't care what they do after that.

I do have a problem understanding why one crack-pot asking for what does not belong to him makes the news when all over this country thousands of judges are demanding and getting what does not belong to them every day.

I think that it is a habit to demand what does not belong to one, a very bad habit. But, if it is worth a bullet in the head in one case, why not in all? Or is a bullet to the head sort of self defeating?

I am definitly against the breeding restrictions. I need me a breeder--nothing like a house full of screaming brats to make me happy. i must be a masochist.

As there are two and only two methods of constructing a set, enumeration and definition, there really are only two methods of trying to save the planet based on the same physical facts. Under enumeration one can start and join thousands of battles against each individual ill of this world, one can become just like an ant pissing on a forest fire. Or two, by definition, the defining characteristic which underlies every social ill, human psychology. Thus, teach the principles of judgment and one might actually have a shot at doing what an ant cannot do. That is all there is, dealing with an effect or dealiing with the cause.

It wasn't meant for us, the viewers. it was for the people inside the building
