Any Wrist Watch collectors/enthusiast in DV?

Myself, I am currently saving for my grail, the WG Daytona, and that got me thinking if anyone here is just a bit obsessed with fine swiss made timepieces?

Also looking at the Omega Planet Ocean

I'm not a fan of wrist watches...I don't like the feel of anything heavy or metalic on my wrists. It's not very girly of me, but I think I would like a pocket watch. Although, I'm awful at telling time!

      Does a 15$ watch from K-mart count?

They all do make a womens line, and some are extreemly beautiful.

But as far as wearing a watch, you either like to or you dont. As long as I can remember, I have had something on my wrist from plastic toy watches when I was young, up to more of a mature taste.

Even if you wear watches, very few people would be willing to spend 5,000 on one, so this thread is more or less a shot in the dark. I justify it as I get one expensive watch every 5 or so years. Most people spend about that if say they have a golf membership, just the watch will last as long as its taken care of, but the gold membership only lasts a year.

we all have our expensive hobbies I guess.

I'm getting an Invicta diamond and crystal watch (below) for grad. I just can't remember the model name or anything.

We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

Very nice. Wearing an Invicta now. Depending upon the modle, Invictas are great quality for the price. I am actually looking to get the Pro Diver 9937 Swiss Automatic in the next month or so.

Invictas come if a few different movement types (quartz and automatic) all their quartz are good, if you are looking at automatics, always pay the extra few hundred for the swiss movement, its far better quality than their Japan automatic movements.

      HI.
Yeah, I like swiss made watches.
As a freediver I looked for some diver style watch and ended with Tissot Seastar 1000 Automatic - as I prefer mechanical watches. I bought them 4 years ago and don't think about buying another since I like them a lot.
But - if my resources are BIG, then I would buy one more - it would be IWC Deep Two - watch with mechanical depthmeter. Ahhhhhhh

I keep breaking my watches and getting new ones

I collect broken watches. Maybe I'll get them fixed by experts one day.

Update... Got my hands on the Omega Planet Ocean but it didn't "sing" to me, so last week I flipped it for an Omega Speedmaster Prefessional, and I'm in love. The Speedy Pro has much history, being the first watch worn on the moon.

      Thanks

For sure, I love looking at it in awe. Then I click the chrono function, and again, in awe. When I first got it, being so use to automatics, I forgot to wind it up and freaked out when I saw it wasnt running. Duh.

Not at all, but my insane mom bought me a $750 Gucci watch for my last birthday. I can't get over what a waste of money it was.

Before this I was buying $20-40 watches from The Bay and breaking them within a couple months. One was a reddish bronze watch I really liked, but whatever paint had been coating it started chipping off gradually only about a week after buying it to reveal silver underneath.

Not a waste at all. I had a Gucci 101M round Day Date.

One of the benefits is that if you take care if it, Change the battery once a year (change it that often because acid will eventually leak, and will ruin the quartz movement), you can pass it Down to the next generation. Every Swiss made watch is made to stand the test of time. 750 bucks is a small price to pay for a lifetime of use. Also it's Gucci, so much of wearing a watch is about respect.

I was in Vancouver a few years back, walked into a Gucci store, and picked up a t-shirt that was like 400 bucks..........

That's a very nice watch you have.

Yeah, you are buying the name, I will not deny that for a second, but there is enough quality for Gucci to stamp their name on it.

Sure it seems expensive, but If you add up those 20 and 30 dollar watches that don't last, you may as well spend it up front and get something that will last. Looks really good, I hope you cherish that gift from your mom, and thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the info about the battery. I don't think I would have thought to change it until it stopped working otherwise.
