I'm just going to explain my screen-name and ask a question. Warning: this sort of turned into a rant. Post anything related to this topic. Your own online name issues, etc. I feel like this should go somewhere between 'The Lounge' and 'Senseless Banter', that it doesn't quite fit into either. |

I'd pronounce it "Die-an-eva" (with the "e" sounding like "ever" or "heaven") or "Die-an-eeva" (long "e" like in "eat"). I definitely wouldn't say "Dee". *shrug* |

As the water manifests the brightness of the moon, the moon manifests the clarity of the water.
I kind of switched back and forth between Die-ah-neh-va and Dee-ah-neh-va. |

Thanks, you're probably right about it not sounding like an English name. I guess that never occurred to me since I'm used to fantasy novels with characters with weird names (this is actually an altered version of a name I liked from a fantasy novel, 'Dianora'). |

^ That's why it's best to go with your real name to avoid confusion. Unless of course, you're name's something like Alecia. |
|
I'm bored by generic real names. |

When I pay attention, I pronounce you name as a first an and middle: Diane Eva. But my first "instinct" is Din-Eva. |
|
I originally got the word from Waking Life. The thing was: after I heard it, I looked it up later on, then I got used to the spelling but forgot how the guy pronounced it. So, even though it was my own name, I pronounced it "Oh-Nee-Ro-Not" for the longest time. But then when I started learning medical terminology - which focuses heavily on Greek and Latin word forms, I came to pronounce the "Oneir-" part like THIS. The "-naut" was always pretty simple. |

stuck alone inside your head, better off dead
I haven't ever tried to sound out your name, but I think I've been pronouncing it in my head like the instrument 'violin' with a 'z'. I've memorized the pronounciation. Where did you get the name? Is it a real French name or did you completely make it up? |

I completely made up the name. I discovered the "zh" sound combo late in life. My youngest daughter is named Zee'Arra Junell. Many people say it as "June-el". Then I watched Dr. Zhivago (I believe it was) and I heard the "J" sound I love so much. A sound I'm rather obsessed with lol. |

I pronounced it as Dya-nee-va |

Whatever happens~
My online name is simple: I am an expert when it comes to pokemon, but when it comes to warcraft 3, I suck. But that's the twist, I named myself weakamon so that people will go easy on me(because they think I'm weak). Because of their overconfidence, I often win. Pretty ironic. |
|
I say "root" and I'm American. Or was that your point? That there is variation? |
|
If I really get curious about pronunciation, I simply let several of voice synths speak the word and listen. |

But doesn't die-an-eh-vah roll off the tongue better than either of those? |
