You see, you say your tastes are unpopular and embarrassing, but then you post images of a man that millions of women consider attractive.
Challenge yourself, get over your embarrassment. So, why not post images of men you personally think are attractive, and not be embarrassed about it?

I think long straight noses are beautiful to the point where every woman I am interested in, my cousin asks, "but does she have a big nose? because I know you like big noses." I am not embarrassed.

We are holding each other and ourselves up to these impossible standards drooling over people we can never have, but it's not really the person. We don't know these people. It's just the idea that Hollywood (holly + wood = magic staff) has projected into our minds.

When was the last time you told a man you find attractive IN REAL LIFE that you think he is sexy, attractive, cute, good-looking, handsome? do it sometime. Well, ladies, we love it. You know why? We hardly ever hear it.

Also, we need more hugs and affection. Sweet long platonic hugs. Sh... it's a secret!

I bet Alex would love to hear that. I bet he's sexy as hell now.

You didn't answer why you're not giving the sexy females thread this kind of heat. So, I assume you're okay with a bunch of guys (and girls) posting pics of women who ALL look pretty much the same, held up to an impossible standard of media beauty to be objectified, while this man thread has SO much more physical variety and you're butthurt about women actually sharing THEIR opinions and being physically attracted to guys. WTF? It is so backward on so many levels.

Men are never objectified/held to any standards of attractiveness to the intense degree that women are, and women aren't picky and cruel about guy's looks to the degree that men are picky and cruel about women's looks, so just shut the hell up and realize how ridiculous and hypocritical you are.

Exactly. I actually like women but I don't go on the females thread much for exaxtly these reasons...
FYI, we've talked a fair bit about how there is so much more that makes a guy hot than what you can capture in a picture. Also, the gender variant thread stemmed from this one. Soooo... I definitely agree that it's good to appreciate differnet kinds of beauty but I don't think this is the best place to criticize...

I didn't go on the other thread, because to me, it's the same thing. I am sorry for all the assholes you feel judged or embarrassed you because you like men with unpopular looks. I was trying to relate, because I like women with unpopular looks.

I have unpopular looks. When I was in high school, all the girls ignored me because of the color of my skin. I thought I was ugly, and I would never have a girlfriend or have sex. I was a virgin until I was 29.

This is me and my friend.

I am putting this on here because I think I am sexy. Now, why would I say that? Because, if you don't think you are, then no one else will. These men had to first think they were sexy before anyone took sexy pictures of them. That's how it works.

I want everyone to look at themselves in the mirror with love. I hardly ever take good pictures. Most my smile is crooked or forced, but I like this one because I was in a good mood at that moment.

I see "average" people walking around me all day that I think are absolutely beautiful, but they don't even realize it, because they are being held to an impossible fantasy standard.

I'm not mad for having unpopular tastes. I love having secret, special tastes. I'm mad about double standards. Your intentions seem good, though, so I shouldn't have taken it out on you.

I find lots of "silly" or "nerdy" looking people attractive if I've got to know them through a show or RL.
Alan Davies is just too cute (esp. if you know him as a comedian )

Oh, and I'll take Stephen Fry in any era (even his "fat" one) but you can't really get any cuter than Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie and their friends in college:

As someone who has never really paid much attention to celebrities, I think I can say that I only claim to find certain men attractive because I really do find them attractive, not because anyone has told me to. I suspect it is the same for most women who have posted in this thread.

Even if many posts are of more typically attractive men, what's wrong with that? Those men became typically attractive in the public's eye for a reason: because many women do naturally find those men attractive.

My taste in men is a little strange compared to most women's. While watching LOTR for the first time a few months ago, I found myself quite attracted to Frodo. At the time, I barely wanted to admit it because I thought he was probably considered typically unattractive, and I had no idea that the actor was considered attractive to many. I was quite surprised to see pictures of him showing up in this thread.

Soon after joining this forum, I posted an image of a guy who other girls apparently didn't find attractive. I felt so ashamed, I deleted the pictures and tried to leave DV for good (I say 'tried' because, who was I kidding, I was hooked by then...). But I refused to post in this thread for a while.

Another reason I rarely post in this thread is because, for whatever reason, there aren't many male celebrities that catch my interest. The fact that I'm only attracted to guys around my age or ± 2 or 3 years doesn't help. Also, as was brought up earlier in this thread, personality, voice, etc. play such important factors in my judgment, it is impossible to get a full impression with a mere picture. Even the most physically attractive male will only be viewed by me as a 6/10 or so, maximum, if I know nothing about his personality.

Anyway, due to the recent conversation in this thread, I've decided to post a couple people who I genuinely find very attractive. Even though this is a picture thread, I feel I must post video, for reasons indicated - because his natural physical appearance is only about 30% of it.

First, this is my (online) friend. I assume he'd let me put this here since he posted it freely on YouTube. The baldness is a shame. A still picture of him wouldn't do him justice, bsince most of the appeal to me comes from his facial expressions, which I just find ridiculously cute.

Next is an 'internet celebrity' named Cody Weber (SaturnineFilms). He is probably the most attractive human on earth to me. This video is a little weird, but he doesn't have many recent videos of himself just talking.

I had a hard time reading all that (not because of you, but because of wine), but I gathered that you had to remove a post because folks didn't approve of your choice of a hotguy?

SO WHAT, I posted a psp altered version of Alan Rickman as Severus Snape. Actually, he's the reason I ended up here at DV almost 8 years ago.

Please don't worry about what other fuckers say here. This is a lucid dreaming website. Which is crazy as fuck if you think about it. So how can any members here really judge your taste in men. It's all subjective here. I mean, christ, we're dreaming about flying and porking our favorite celebrities on purpose! What's the basis of comparison these days.

Yeah, thanks. It shouldn't matter, it only did to me at the time. It was almost a year ago, and I've come to care much less about the judgments of other since then.

Aw, you should post it again! I'm really curious now I don't see how it could be bad. It's all only a matter of personal tastes.

To be honest, after I watched Frodo (and gained a huge crush on him), I was shocked and dismayed that not EVERYBODY on Earth found him obviously attractive, because his features are God-like (particularly in those movies, mainly the Fellowship). Perfect facial proportions, good jawline but not too masculine, and of course those beautiful, other-worldly eyes. After all, Greek artistic depictions of the male ideal look just like him, for Christ's sake:

Needless to say, I became even more outraged as I learned that many people apparently think he's not attractive, even ugly. I just find it so hard to believe or imagine. People's tastes differ and of course they're entitled to them, but seriously...

Of course, my crushes after him have not been quite as other-worldly or "perfect" in my eyes, so I'm more understanding of other's opinions, but I love them all the same.

Soon after joining this forum, I posted an image of a guy who other girls apparently didn't find attractive. Wow, you've considered leaving after that? I've think I've done FAR worse things and made myself into a social pariah here, and am still considering deleting my account (but I can't bring myself to do it because there's nowhere else online with such great lucid dreaming resources and such an active, participating LD community).

Anyway, in this recent thread spirit, I'm just gonna say screw all and picspam with Terry O'Quinn (the one I'm most crazy about lately but who I'm most embarrassed to admit or post)...

Of course there are a multitude of other strong factors at play with my attraction to him, mainly his acting ability, amazing personality, mannerisms, voice, etc, but that doesn't stop me from focusing solely on his looks from time to time, now that I'm hooked. What's embarrassing is that he's several years older than my dad, and could easily be my grandpa.

That's an interesting observation. The pictures you posted do resemble him. But he does have a kind of feminine look. He's beautiful, but as far as I know most girls aren't looking for beautiful in men, that's why I can't imagine most girls would find him attractive.

Yeah, I've seriously tried to leave about four times since first joining a year ago, that being the first. I did leave for over a month in the worst case. You shouldn't leave, no one should leave (except greenhavoc ).

I don't remember what the picture was, but I'm pretty sure it was of Alfie Allen. Here are some:

Actually, a lot of girls want beautiful, more feminine type men, if not most, which explains the popularity of Justin Beiber (and the anger and confusion of guys that ensues). Just an example, though Bieber sucks. There was also N'Sync, Backstreet Boys, and especially Hanson (now THAT just got weird). Just think of the phrase "pretty boy"; it exists for a reason.

He reminds me of my brother, who's not that great, so I can't comment on him.

      There.
I like him. Nah, it's not any racier than anything on the sexy females thread.

Yeah, that's one of my main criteria when thinking about guys' looks. Heck, I spend a lot of my time in threads here talking about how I really hope I end up with a crossdresser.

Thank you for sharing that. I agree.

Remember Hollywood in the black and white days? Right. ALL WHITE PEOPLE. That's because Hollywood is racist. They would've never hired a non-White for a leading role.

You know where "Black is Beautiful" comes from? Black people in the United States got sick of this idea from Hollywood that only White people are beautiful. No one needs to straighten their hair, or lighten their skin to become beautiful. This is what I am getting at, but no one sees my point. Maybe because I am a man, so I must be some butthurt woman-hater blah blah blah.

No. I am trying to get you to see the level of mind control.

      EXAMPLE:

Elijah Wood is obviously attractive, but Frodo is not. If Elijah Wood played an Elf or Human warrior in LOTR, he would be much more of a sex symbol.

If so, this is the first I've heard of it. I've always been under the impression that those feminine pop stars are admired almost exclusively by 10-14 year old girls, and that when girls become any older than that they start to prefer more masculine men. How come when I google image 'hot guy' all I see is masculinity? Also, in most of the media, the more feminine guys with bodies I'd be attracted to are usually outcasted.

The 4 pictures I posted were of the same guy, he's just older in the second two.

You're heavily attracted to both men and women though, right? Maybe that's why.

I agree that there is a level of brainwashing going on. However, that can't be blamed for all of it. You cannot assume that, if the brainwashing didn't happen, everyone would be considered equally beautiful. I can say with complete honesty, although I'll rarely admit it because I know it upsets people, that I am attracted exclusively to skinny white males my own age and height. Personality-wise, I must perceive them as intelligent, thoughtful, and they must be on the antisocial side. If even one of these qualities is missing, my attraction will likely fall apart. That might sound harsh, but it is the truth, and I don't think it's the result of brainwashing. I think the reason is, well, when I analyze the qualities I mentioned, I realise that I'm looking for what is pretty much a male version of myself, with some room for leniency.

I do agree with much of what you're saying, and am not at all considering your opinion to be any less valid than a female's. There is definitely brainwashing going on. But it's hard to tell how much of the general preference for Caucasians really results from that and how much would naturally occur. People are better at recognising the faces of other people with the same ethnic background. It seems to follow from that that people will be more likely attracted to others of the same ethnic background, and perhaps this is the reason. I guess what I'm trying to say is, don't fear racism so much that you're blind to the possibility that things like this might be the result of natural differences.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make here. I actually found the Frodo character quite attractive (when I ignored the shortness, which was easy because he looked to be of normal height in most of the shots).
