      Curious about America

      Hi

Since there are quite few Americans here on board, I'd like to ask some questions. I'm not planning in moving to America or something like that. I'm just a curious Swiss.

      Here we go:

What do you pay for a gallon of gas nowadays?
I heard your gas prices have risen a bit, how much?

In which succession do you fill up car at the gas pump? Do you pay in the first place (cash in the shop) and then fill up or vice versa?

Is a casualty insurance for a car mandatory?

Thats it from me, if you want to know something from Switzerland, ask.

What do you pay for a gallon of gas nowadays?: It changes day by day, but in central New York (northeast part of the country) it's currently $3.77 (USD, ofc) but one week ago it was almost $4.

I heard your gas prices have risen a bit, how much?: I only recently started driving so I'm not 100% sure, but in like '07 or something gas was like a little under $2, now it can be up to $4 depending on where you go.

In which succession do you fill up car at the gas pump? Do you pay in the first place (cash in the shop) and then fill up or vice versa?: Different places do it differently. Some have you put your credit card in first, then charges it for whatever you fill up. Other have you walk in and pay (say, $20 on pump 3) and then you go out and fill it up until you spent $20.

Is a casualty insurance for a car mandatory?: Sorry, I'm not old enough to answer this one XD

Thats it from me, if you want to know something from Switzerland, ask: Do you get more snow than me? We can have about 4 feet of snow on the ground at any given time. (in the winter, that is)

      $3.75 currently in West Virginia.

I heard your gas prices have risen a bit, how much?
      Don't remember

In which succession do you fill up car at the gas pump? Do you pay in the first place (cash in the shop) and then fill up or vice versa?
It depends on the station. Most are going to Pay then Pump though- at least locally.

Is a casualty insurance for a car mandatory?
My hubby takes care of that- so I have no idea.

Every one of your questions involves cars. Are you sure you aren't planning something?

What do you pay for a gallon of gas nowadays?
$3.50, ours is cheaper in Jersey than the rest of the country because we have the refineries

I heard your gas prices have risen a bit, how much?
When I learned to drive a decade ago it was about $1.20 a gallon

In which succession do you fill up car at the gas pump? Do you pay in the first place (cash in the shop) and then fill up or vice versa?
They pump, you pay when they are done. Most states have self-service where you put your credit card into the machine, I think Jersey in the only state who has self-service by law

Is a casualty insurance for a car mandatory?
      Yes

You still have full service stations? That is awesome. I can't remember the last time I saw one... okay, I do. It was in Hawaii on some out of the way road. Kids actually pumped lol. Sheesh... that was probably a decade ago or so.

Utica, NY still has full service gas stations as well, but i think it's more of a novelty thing, not law or anything.

It depends on where you live here. Right here we get about 2 or 3 ft of snow a winter.

Pretty cheap, no wonder that american cars have such big engines.
Here we pay about the doubled price for the same amount.
