Sure, they get people's attention, but are they really "working" if their doing the organization more harm than good?

How are they doing PETA harm? They've got EVERYBODY talking. That's all they want.

Exactly. You guys still don't see it? ANY publicity is good publicity.

Yes, for an underhanded organization like PETA.

If an organization wants to be considered RESPECTABLE then they wouldn't want such negative publicity. But obviously PETA isn't concerned with seeming respectable.

Fair enough. My problem though, is believing the statistics. Not all statistics are true, obviously. Maybe I'm just affected by a guy who worked in marketing, who told me that sex and humor don't actually sell, but people still use it as if they do. How can they tell that the sales can be attributed to sexy ads, and not something else?

Yes, by all means, laugh and laugh at how retarded I am. Everybody can chime in. Apparently I really am just stupid in every way.

      Awe we wuv you Deery!

Besides... I see your point but I don't expect PETA to see it. Sex and Humor are "Attention Grabbers" but not sellpoints. Unfortunately marketers usually don't know the difference between an attention grabber and a sellpoint

But they go hand in hand. Let me provide you with some practical examples.

Person A creates a thread about PETA on DV.
Person B reads this thread, finds the content interesting/disturbing/whatever.
Person B tells his friends about PETA and they also get interested/disturbed/whatever.
One of person B's friends decides to check PETA's site out and upon seeing footage of animals beeing tortured, he/she decides to join PETA.

This is a highly possible scenario. People also don't reason like you guys do. I myself don't see a problem with people using women's bodies to sell products. Most people, much like me, are so used to the commercial society that we don't even reflect over the coherency of advertisement. Hell, it's even worse in Japan. Right now there is a funny commercial on TV where three cute girls in bikins march around and then suddenly turn into monkies. And it's a commercial for a gum.

I, for one, am one of the people who will NOT be spreading the word about PETA. If they would have had a rational, sane approach, they would have gotten me to probably share their story. So you win people for the "THEY'RE CRAZY" factor, but lose them for the "They're crazy -.-" factor.

That was hilarious!!! Oh the irony!!

Wait - you WERE being ironic right?

Um - you do realize you just furthered their infamy by posting on this thread - right? How many people just came in here because there was a new post? Every one of them has seen the name PETA again - thanks to you. You're a PETA pawn.

So am I, but I'm not in denial.

Oh I see what happened. I posted on here, and it bumped the thread, and now someone is reading about PETA because of me.

I was meaning that I would not be sharing this story with my friends or anyone I know, because I have no need, even though some people might (in reference to a previous post.)

Actually, this whole site, DV, is a PETA conspiracy, to get you to dream about PETA after reading this thread... won't you?

In general by comparing the financial effects of sexy ads to non-sexy ads.

      Here's my experience with animals:

I remember being at an animal sanctuary. I was going up to a stall that had a pig in it. The pig in the stall jolted alert, stood up, and ran up to me. It was like a dog gets when they see you walk into the house after not seeing you all day. The pig lifted it's front feet up onto the rail. The reason was likely so I could pet it more easily. Then I pet the pig for a few moments and then it rolled on the ground with it's belly up. It reminded me of my cat I used to have. After a while of petting my cat he'd let me pat his belly... I'm telling you, if a cat or dog acted like this pig, you'd not notice a difference.

Kinda makes me think a little. Do I want to eat this animals back? I just looked it in the eyes. I just pet it. It's perhaps more intelligent then most domestic animals. So you can be proud that you eat animals, and wear them, and use products that contain parts of them, but I'm not going to contribute.

It's funny how when I mention this people jump on me for the choices I make. Somehow I'm a terriorist, or I'm just talking because I want to convert people to my way of living. Well, I've read all 66 posts about your thoughts and opinions. Now you can listen to me. Fair?..

Stop shoving your hippy veganarianist, starbucks latte drinking, socialist propaganda down our throats. If pigs are so smart they would speak english.

Or Esperanto. That would probably be easier for them.

      @carebearboy:

You're right. Killing kittens and puppies is apparently a terrible deed, whereas eating a tasty buger is not. People are big hypocrites when it comes to that.

Why is it that I have to have an agenda because of the way I eat? What if I said you had a right-wing, capitalist agenda because you eat meat? Would be kinda silly. Would you not agree?

What does being smart have to do with deserving life? There are people that are born with down's syndrome. Do we eat them? What about babies and elderly people? People sitting in hospitals for years? Eat them? Stuff them in small cages. Artificially inseminate them? Take their children away, and do the same to them? Maybe make a coat out of their back skin?..

Yet I'm the outcast because I choose not to support this.

      Why can't I admit I'm just joking?

That's ludicrous, human skin is too saggy to wear as a coat and babies are far too bony and tender to eat. I like your down syndrome idea though. About time they gave back to society. The mentally disabled have leeched off our hard work for too long.
