Not the best video, unfortunately. I was going to ride out to Titusville to view the launch from up close, but everybody else ended up bailing on me. Anyway, I live like 50 miles away from the cape and we were still able to see it really good. There were only a few clouds and they really lit up. The booster trail was huge. (The camera doesn't even do it justice because it's so small and the picture's so dark)
I was able to see the shuttle longer that I ever have before. Just when you thought it was fading away it actually started getting brighter. I've never seen the boosters separate before, but we were able to see it from even as far as we are, which was fuckin dope.

I remember being so excited keeping up with all the news when the Discovery was up there the first time. I got up early to see the landing.

I'm glad to hear it's up in action again.

I didn't even know there was a launch!!
Usually I'm on top of things like that. One of the things on my to do list is to watch a shuttle launch in person. Can't believe I missed watching it live.

      Thanks for the video.
      Very appreciated.

      WOW What an experience.
That thing is not too fuel efficient is it? My gosh, You are sitting on top of a volatile time bomb.
Does that thing not use some 750,000 tons of fuel?

      Anyway. Cool!

Yeah it's been like what? 11 years since we had a Night Launch. Very exciting that's for sure.

A little over 4 years, actually.

I watched it on NASA TV -- actually sat there watching for about 90 minutes before the launch, listening to all the pre-flight checks, updates to the crew, polling the various managers for go/no-go, etc. I love it.

Yeah, my tv was locked to it about 1-1/2 to 2 hours into it, too. I love how the whole neighborhood is outside cheering. You can't really hear it on the recording, though.
If there is an early "all-clear" on the next launch (as long as I'm not at work) I'm driving out to the Cape to see it, even if it's just me and Cierra. Hopefully we get another night launch soon because that was just awesome. I wonder how long that fire trail is to be able to see it burning so clearly from so far away.

Great video, O! Thanks for posting that! I got the chills when it ignited and started the lift-off. Awesome how you could see from your window! ...and I like the reindeer at the end too

Had some problems with my pc that time when the launch was scheduled but i still managed somehow to watch it on NASA TV and stayed up until 3:30 am (i am in GMT +1 time zone). It was great.
The next shuttle launch is scheduled for March 16.
I am too far from FL.Hope some of you will get there to see it live.

Wow...Discovery just returned and that was the LOUDEST Sonic Boom I've ever heard in my LIFE.

I was sitting outside and wasn't even thinking about the shuttle returning, but then I heard "BOOM BOOOM!" I thought it was an explosion in the neighborhood. Damn, that was loud.
