The fact that most of christianity's celebrations are adopted pagan rituals that have now been commercialized. Hypocrisy anyone?

People that won't do something that will benefit them if the do it and/or harm them if they don't just because they worry what other people will think. If you know what your doing, just do it!

The way people laugh at every single sexual innuendo/joke as if it's absolutely original. Stop thinking with your dick!

      Haha, he said dick.

I agree so totally about the shower though.

Another thing for my list: Commercialisation and the need to appeal to a broad market destroying all attempts at art, originality, controversy, free thinking. That's right Golden Compass. Yeah.

capitalization and typing out entire words is unnecessary to effectively communicate. being anal about grammar is a form of elitism. if u can't understand what i'm saying because i write "u" instead of "you", then it's safe to assume you are a moron. if u cant understand sumthing b/c of unacceptable grammar, then yes, pointing out errors is warranted. but if, say, u have a problem with the conjunction at the beginning of this sentence b/c it violates "The Rules", then i'd be very pissed off, because my pt has still been solidly conveyed.

grammar exists only to keep sentences understandable. capital letters and full words dont contribute to that cause, so, for the most part, i dont use them. i would much rather hav a colorful vocabulary than pefect, by-the-book diction

why do i do this? i'm trying to advance and simplify* our language by omitting unnecessary grammar rules so that we can communicate more fluidly. there should be less emphasis on grammar, more on vocabulary and better expression. grammar is only necessary to an extent. which is more interesting, grammar without expressiveness or expression wihtout grammar?

      grammatically correct:

      "Juliet is pretty."

      expressive:
"she teachs torches to burn brite...her beauty is 2 rich for use and to dear 4 earth" -Romeo, de-grammar'd, but left understandabl

*simplification is a natural process as a language evolves. i mean, thou doth not speaketh Ye Olde English anymore, right? does that mean we've been "disrespecting the language"? get with it gramps.

Good grammar and non-1337 $P34K just makes you look more mature and gives people a better impression of yourself. You come off as uncivilized when you can't even master the alphabet.

Yes I'm serious. It's like saying, yeah I'm capable of walking correctly but I choose to walk with a limp and fall over every few steps. I don't actually understand how you can type with bad grammar... people who aren't very comfortable with the language do this, not native speakers. I wouldn't mind you giving me more examples of what you consider bad grammar, actually, because I didn't understand that one example at all.

Grammar, by the way, is not the difference between "you" and "u". It's the difference between, "I went to the store today" and "Me go to store earlier."

Ms. Jones, do you know how much longer it took for me to read that post? I understand that people make spelling/grammar errors, but using proper spelling, punctuation, capitalization, etc. allows one to read more easily and quickly. When you shorten words, your mind is less apt to pick up on them immediately, and you have to go back and re-read them.

The internet is killing my language. I fight for good grammar!

      That is all. [/point]

I completely agree. Although I rarely capitalize my words in PMs or emails, but that's because they're on a much more personal level.

      LOL

But "me got to store earlier" is pretty damn funny.

I understand both points; I love language and words, and as such it is not only more effective to write properly, but also more fun. If books started to be written differently, we may as well create a new language. I cannot stand sentences like:

yo waz ^ homie u goin to da store today?

There comes a point when simplification changes to code.

because you're not used to it. that doesn't mean that if it was the standard, it would be more difficult to read.

back to the old english example: even people who are comfortable with the language have trouble interpreting Shakespeare. does that mean Shakespeare sucked at english? no.

the "me went to the store earlier" example illustrates my point. there is no difference in meaning between "I went to the store earlier" and "me went to the store earlier". so in this instance, there's no purpose for having two separate terms.

Know what annoys me? Smug grammar nazis who can't even spell the word "grammar".

Know what else annoys me? People who dismiss an entire paragraph of, in my opinion, perfectly sound logic on the basis that it does not resemble that of a Harvard English professor.

There, now will you read what I have to say?

Also: I don't lack grammar. I lack proper grammar, i.e., that which is up to the highest standard, and is, for the most part, superfluous. I utilize only the grammatical tools which are necessary to convey what I want to say.

1337 and bad grammar can be funny at times, I would never suggest you should never use it.

      It depends on the situation.

But still...good grammar is nice once in awhile.
