Thread: Guitar Showdown Anyone?

Ok, whew! Managed to download the file and throw something together while watching Sarah Connor Chronicles (yah, again!). I gotta say, I really liked this groove, made me think of a few of Sade's songs. Went with a clean, round jazz sound for the lead.

Skipped my spanish Meetup this evening for this, hope you like.

Nice, Joe! I like that sound. The subtle two-string chords in there are a nice touch.

Here's mine
Not all that happy with it, but I figured it'd be good enough to just get back into the swing of things. Audacity is having some trouble recording the audio, and the sound "skips" every now and then, but I don't really know how best to fix that, at the moment.

Oh, and Fay's been a big rainmaker, for the most part. She's a tropical storm right now, aiming to cut just south-southeast of my city now. Shouldn't really expect much from her until at least tomorrow. She's likely sit and spin out off the east coast (and get stronger) and then probably cut back across my way. No one really knows the true path, though, yet, so we'll see. I haven't gotten anything but rain up here, so far, though.

So, Mr. Been-Ready-Since-Wednesday...where ya at??

I want to change the tone of my guitar, before we submit our projects. I think I rely on the distortion too much, and should play a little cleaner, more often - thanks, in part, to Joe. Heh. I'll have something up in a min.

Yeah I have been on very much lately. Things are kinda hectic on my side, right now. I did remember that I still needed to revise my improv. Just got it up now.

It's ok. I was kind of all over the place, at some points. Still trying to get used to mixing the blues pentatonic scale with the Lydian scale (which is why a lot of what I'm playing is simple scale progression). I think I did ok, though.

Ok CoLd (or anyone else that wants to participate - we gotta have at least three contestants), you're up!

There's no deadline this time. We're just trying to get this thing started again, so I'm waiting until we get at least one other contestant. Hopefully we can get something going ASAP but, as of now, there's no deadline for this particular project.

(And come on...I know there's more guitarists on DV than this. Step up, people! )

I might join this for fun now that I have a laptop with a webcam. I can't promise great picture, but the sound should be alright! Now I just need to get a replacement cord for my amp...

But, yeah, go ahead and start on the improvisation task. There is still no deadline for this one. But - unless someone else comes in and says they want to do it too - then we will open up the voting thread, for You, Joe and Myself, whenever you submit your entry.

I don't plan on joining this anytime soon, but here's an idea: Try playing the best you can overhanded. (the way I play naturally ) It should be challenging, like trying to write with your left hand, or me playing "normally".

Also there might be a slim chance that I'll post an improvisation of Padmasana by that guy <---. Don't count on it, though.

All right, I'm done. I've never done anything like this before, so don't completely rip me to shreds!

There are a few parts I'm not too thrilled about, particularly the beginning where I messed up, but I like the majority of it.

I don't know if you went back in the posts far enough, but this task has to do with all of us using the same beat, and improvising over the beat. If you listen to Joe's and my entry, they are done over the same beat. (The beat, itself, is on the previous page.)

Do you have the equipment to let you play the media file of the beat, and record yourself improvising over top of it?

Not to my knowledge, what would be a good program/equipment to use? I do have the beat playing in the background.

Oh, ok. I just listened to it again, and I had to turn it way up to hear that it was the beat. It sounded like a metronome, at first.

I don't know, maybe do a cover of a song like you suggested before the last task.

im in im no that good but i can shred the newbies off, freak them out with bluegrass then have a 20 minute long jazz solo that consists of 5 note aprregios played in different keys. you know what scratch that i play a piece i wrote and see what happens
