Thread: Guitar Showdown Anyone?

I'm in. I suck at covers, but I can work something out.

If anybody else is into jazz, maybe we could all do the same standard. Maybe summertime or blue bossa. Just make 2 tracks one with chords, one melody and solo.

I would like to join in on the cover track, too, if I find the time ^^ I made a cover of Guns N' Roses knocking on heavens door a pretty long time ago, but the guitar was out of tune, and I think I could get the tone a bit better So this would be an excellent time to try that

The consensus seems to be all for the cover assignment, so we'll go with that. These events are usually given a week, so I will open the voting polls either Friday or Saturday. Anyone else who wants to join in, before that time, is welcome to.

I don't know too much about jazz, unfortunately, stonedape. I plan on getting into a bit more, in the future, though. Perhaps we can do a jazz-related task soon.

I wasn't planning on joining in, but this afternoon I found myself bored and caffeinated in my room so I decided to record a cover of "Nothing Better" by The Postal Service. The song was written as a duet with the guy singing some lines and the girl singing others, but if you read the lyrics you can probably tell which lines are supposed to be sung by the girl. Quality-wise I am overall fairly pleased with this, except that my guitar was overloading the mic a little bit and I didn't want to do another take, so there is some mild clipping throughout much of the track. Anyway, enjoy.

Alright, I've been out for the past couple of days, but I'm back in town. Gonna be opening up the vote thread soon - tomorrow at the very latest - so everyone who is planning on participating needs to post their projects. I should have min up in a couple of hours when I have time to warm-up and record.

I could easily play single notes and then edit them together and then edit them with fades and smash them onto a 500bpm grid in ProTools and win this competition hands down and you guys would never even guess that I never had to play it on my own.

I'm wondering if you're making this statement because you don't think we know how obvious it is that people could cheat, when listening to audio over the internet.

Whatever the case, we figure those who want to participate wouldn't be that pathetic, to win an award-less guitar contest (in which the whole purpose is simply for fun) by cheating like that.

Sure, I'm still around. I've just been putting it off because I can't seem to keep a third person locked in. Heh.

I wouldn't vote for a 500bpm wankfest even if it was legit.

Anyway, if Oneiro is in doesn't that make us 3? I have an idea for the next challenge (if it ever happens ) so I kind of want to get this one moving along. Plus my singing on this take is quite awful and I feel like I've been in purgatory awaiting judgment for 2 months.

Ooh, I almost forgot that you already turned yours in. So yeah, we can do this. Do you want to re-record, DuB, or just stick with the one you have? We'll keep this one open until Monday, so everyone has time to either prepare or perfect their entry.

It's tempting, but the fact is that I'm just not a very good singer, so I doubt that I could improve much on it. And as for the clipping, personally I barely notice it so I hope it isn't too bothersome for everyone else . I'll stick with what I've submitted.

I've made very spacey songs in 500bpm, it just lets you take advantage of abstract timing when working in "grid" setup.

I could fool you guys, I don't care what you say, all I would have to do is make 4 tracks, play a few random notes, cut them right before the wave starts and align them so on the shared 4 tracks while off setting them a little here and there to make it more "human". Inserting fades at the tips and make automations for each track with 2 off set vibratos which I would enable near the same tips gradually. Its been done, and even the biggest tech-heads have been fooled. THE END.

Dylan, we are on a website where people come and share their lucid dreaming experiences. We have nothing to go on but their word. The idea that you could "fool us" by using digital manipulation (not to mention just having someone else play the damn song for you) goes absolutely without saying. I don't understand what it's even an issue. It's basically the same as someone making a post in the Dreaming section saying: "Hey, I can just tell you all that I lucid dream 6 times a night, every night, and none of you would know! Lulz!"

It just doesn't even warrant bringing up.

The contest is for fun. Nothing more. If you (you meaning 'anyone,' not particularly you, yourself) want to be 'that guy,' who has to cheat just to get recognition for something like this, the go right ahead. I just wonder how many people around here would actually be that pathetic.

I wouldn't record anything for anybody ever, just for myself. Also, there is nothing wrong with doing it that way. It requires an almost complete different set of skills to pull something off like that. In fact for music writing purposes it can be useful.

That's not the point. I never said it didn't. I just said that doing it that way, with the simple intention of winning this contest through deceit, would be pathetic.

The technique for creating music, itself, is not.
