One more reason to be proud of my state. Hatred for homosexuals is one of the weirdest social phenomena there is. It is one of society's major WTF's.

It always amazes me when people with authority punish everybody for what one or two people did and then everybody else is pissed at the one or two people instead of the idiots with authority who punished everybody. I have seen it a bunch, and it is mind boggling.

I have never been to Fulton. Lesbians are fairly accepted in Pearl, which is the most redneck suburb of Jackson. (It is where the high school shooting craze of the 90's began, by the way.) Fulton must be really backward ass.

I heard that they still practice corporeal punishment in Mississippi. Go Mississippi!

      .... wow.

IT IS A SINGLE COUPLE. Jeez, have they never heard of going 'stag' in a group? In the midst of all the other activity, does it really matter at all? In my opinion, no. Canceling the prom was a sophomoric move, compared to letting them in and hardly anyone noticing.

Also, I love the term 'normal'. Normal is only relative, a comparison to the majority. If normal is relative, so is weird, and weird gets the most attention.

      I love society. (/sarcasm)

      Ooh! I'd pitch in!

Some "islands" you can buy for less than 100K. Sometime in the course of my life, I want one that's around 5 - 10 million USD.

It is pretty mind-boggling. Though I gotta wonder, I'd expect the majority of the students to be just as bigoted as the authoratah. I mean, it's kind of part of the culture. Even if just 25% of the students are bigoted, it's enough people to make it seem like all the students are mad at those girls.

There was no need to cancel the entire prom because of this, it seems sought of obvious that the people in charge intended this so that the girls would be mocked and angered at. This didn't help the matter. Just let them go and no one will notice. Sheesh. I would of just said, just try and wear something other than a tux, so it doesent look a bit odd for the school. Not that it matters, but you know what i mean. You don't want people laughing at them.

I sometimes find myself wondering if the misanthropic are even aware that this kind of solution would entail their destruction as well. It's suicide, to some degree...but why? Whatever...

I'm not what you'd call an active supporter of the gay rights movement, but even I admit that this ain't right. Not in the slightest. Whether you agree with homosexuality or not, cancelling the prom with the sole intention of causing the couple in question to be ostracized by their peers was a dick move and simply FUBAR.

I completely Agree Lezen. Why should the school get their hands dirty? Why not let the student body do it for them. I am a complete supporter for gay rights. Not having gay rights is like saying its ok to still have slavery.

Idk why people still act this way. They should listen to their mother's advice and "Keep their opinions to themselve if they have nothing nice to say." Mississippi needs to accept gay marriages. They need to have change and stop acting like its 1950's

if the black people can overcome then The gay shall overcome someday!!!

There was a discussion about this, on the radio, today. Some chick called in and was giving the school props because: "Christians need to make a stand! There is something wrong with these people! (Homosexuals) They have a sickness! They need to be taught a lesson, that this is not the way they should live, and blah blah blah..." (paraphrase)

So the DJ was like: "You know, I've been real 'laxed about this, all day...but seriously; 'these people have a sickness?' There's something 'wrong' with them? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Christians weren't supposed to Judge people? I was under the impression that that was God's job?"

The lady stammered (of course) and was like: "Well...I'm not judging...I'm just saying that these people need help. It is the job of Christian's to help them see the error in their ways. (etc.)"

And the DJ was like: "So, you're saying that because one gay couple wants to go to a prom, the entire prom should be canceled, to teach this one couple a lesson? What about all of the other kids? Is it right that they all suffer so that these gay kids could be "taught a lesson?"

I don't remember the woman's response, if there was one.

But, really. It just continues to blow my mind, how ignorant/self-righteous people can be, due to indoctrination (especially toward doctrine that is as flimsy as organized religion).

The whole thing is pretty fucking sad, if you ask me.

This is why i hate religion. It causes so many problems. If you believe in a religion to give you faith for a loved one. Or to help you move on in life and find better things then sure, go ahead. But its the sereous thing's like this, that annoy's me. Mainly, people find a religion/faith because it makes them feel better, about a loved one dieing. And that the loved one will be in a safe place. And they will keep thinking this until the day the die, because its a win-win situation if you ask me. You either, belive in God or another God your whole life and expect to go to heaven or a different place with love ect, and all of that. Or you die and lose cognotive function to the brain, and you won't know a damn thing about it.

I have to wonder why people feel compelled to 'fix' what is not 'normal'. Like I said before, normal is relative. Just because something is not to what you think should be normal means that you can fix it to fit.

I have this mindset: You can do whatever the hell you want, as long as you don't negatively affect others or try to force your beliefs onto me. If those two things are upheld, I may initially be put off, but I WILL tolerate it, and I will not try to stop it. I have an open mind, so if I so choose, I might try out new ideas.

After reading into this more, I have made this conclusion: This could have been avoided completely. There was no rule to say that this couple could not have gone separately in the tickets, stay together for the night, and none would be the wiser. Insisting on going as a couple put the school on the spot to decide whether or not to accept them for who they are. When refused, the girls made it public by threatening to sue. The school called the bluff, and decided to not deal with the situation at all.

I again put my former statement out: As long as you do not negatively affect others (putting the school on the spot, and the canceling of the prom were factors on both sides) and force your beliefs onto me or others (having the school decide yea or nay, and the school forcing the students to not even have a prom) you are okay with me.

I'm sure that at one point or another, the parents will make a dance for the students to replace the prom. There were moves made on both sides that some people don't like, but that is the reality of this sort of situation. Wherever you go in life, there will be critics.

Do you really think it's right that they should have to hide, though? You really think it's OK that the school wouldn't let them go together, at the expense of everyone?
