A simple sound mp3 for gaining lucidity?

After reading about some of the sound tracks and how dream masks work, I had an idea for a simple mp3 sound track that could help you gain lucidity.

Here's the theory behind it, a dream mask blinks leds every so often so that when you're dreaming you realize it, couldn't you do the same thing with sound?

You could either use a looping sound track that has several hours of nothing, and then a repeating recording of your voice letting you know that you're dreaming for 2 minutes.

Or, (and this technique requires a smaller file, but would be potentially less effective) you could simply make a recording of your voice, and then set it as the sound for a phone alarm.

what do you think? would this work?

It's a good idea, but if you're not aware enough in the first place, you'll just ignore it within the dream. There's not really a point to using it then, and it's the same with the mask.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

I'm still new to the whole thing, so how do you become aware enough in the first place? are you referring to keeping a dream journal and reality checks?

Well, throughout the day at completely random times, stop what you're doing and ask yourself if you're dreaming. Look around and observe things closer than you normally do. In a dream, you go about things without even considering the fact that you may be dreaming, so it's very important to be skeptical in waking life so it becomes custom in your dreams. Reality checking after you ask yourself if you're dreaming is also important.

I've tried this, and never got it to work right. Here is why:

      1. You would first need a device like Zeo to track your dream stages. Guessing won't work, you need more precision.
      2. Your auditory senses are dampened during sleep, so you most likely would not hear the sound, or if you did, simply integrate it into your dream.

With that said, Zeo has stated that they are coming out with a programmable user interface for the device. If you could use brainwave frequencies to trigger different sounds, you could do the following:

      1. As you fall asleep, you will hit the 4-7 hz range (Theta). This is a highly suggestive stage. An MP3 could play a soft voice saying "You are going to dream, and you are going to remember it", along with some other pleasant background sounds. You could (as I do) do this now.

      2. When you start REM sleep, you would have a sound loud enough to wake you up, then an MP3 that has some Theta waves playing as you fall back asleep. I think you need a Zeo for this.

The sound that wakes you up would be a pleasant sound, but loud enough to really wake you up. Before using this technique, you would listen to this sound over and over again, while you say out loud, "When I hear this sound, I will have a Lucid Dream".

Really it's just a combination of MILD and WILD with some technology built in

I'm trying this method with no Zeo, and guessing when I hit REM. No luck so far. A Zeo is pretty pricey. Also, the sound that wakes you up still sucks when you're sleepy. I just say screw it, and go back to bed..lol

If anyone has any knowledge that sounds can do something WHILE you are sleeping, please post. I just got a new pair of SleepPhones, and they're pretty cool. I listen to stuff before I fall asleep. I try different MP3s that claim lucidity, but I don't think they work while you are actually asleep. Comments?

I'm going to research more about EILD...

If you are interested, I can post the sounds that I tried to do this with.

Yeah, didn't work when I tried my track. I woke up in the middle of the night, and hadn't even gone back to sleep yet when the first portion of the track played.

For me, the Zeo says that I hardly get any REM. (either I dream fast or it's wrong) It would be impossible to time the REM for a track. And the output is just recorded to a flash card - there's no way to detect in real time if you're sleeping, which is too bad.

Although I mostly use SleepPhones to help me get to sleep, I can see how listening to something on them during REM would help.
