I think I have found a very effective dreaming supplement - or at least for myself - so I thought I'd make a recommendation for others who have made similar attempts.
I had been using garlic (in pill form) before bed, which seemed to make my dreams strange and in third person, often with somebody narrating ( ), but still pretty vivid. It is very helpful when I feel like I'll have some difficulty getting to sleep, though.
Using a B-complex and bananas etc. had a subdued effect for me and never was reliable, but such things are good to take anyways.
I work at a natural market and the other day I spoke to our nutritionist. I told her I was looking for something to enhance memory/concentration like ginkgo biloba, but it turns out that ginkgo is really only effective for seniors or for circulation related issues. She told me to get a supplement called DMAE H-3 by Twinlab and gave me some literature.
DMAE is naturally found in some fish oils and is most effective in liquid form (do NOT buy it as a capsule - it's a waste of money). And it's available for about $8!
Ok, so now to its effects. I put some drops in a cup of water right before bed the first night I tried it, and I noticed a huge improvement in my recall (not my best recall EVER, but definitely better than the crappy recall I had for a few days before this). The second night I had my longest LD to date, and it was funny because soon after I became lucid I was thinking, "wooo! dmae is awesome!"
In summary, this has been a very reliable supplement for me. According to my nutritionist, its effects are sustained after a certain point (ask me about the best way to go about with dosages if your interested) and this makes me feel good because I don't want to be dependent on the assistance of a substance for having LDs -- I really just want something to help me get to the next level.
