First Lucid Dream, First Wasted Lucid Dream

My first ever lucid dream and I missed my chance to do something I'd never be able to do

I remember being in a small dark room with a friend of mine, we were talking about something that I don't fully remember when he suddenly told me that I was dreaming, which surprised me a bit, so I took a look at one of my hands and sure enough, I had seven fingers, then I realised that it was a dream, I became exited but I knew I'd have to calm down or risk waking up, so I made a chair for myself and sat down to think about it, after I'd managed to calm myself down I noticed that there weren't any doors in this room, so I'd have to make one, pushed on a wall and it didn't move, pushed on another and it opened, I was in my friends house, there was nearly no light at all and I ended up painfully falling down the stairs, once I'd recovered from this I stepped outside only to find that the sky was red and huge dragon like creatures were flying around, since I knew it was a dream I knew I could do what I wanted and decided to fight the first person I saw, unfortunately I woke up soon after a man carrying watermelons ran at me with a small purple knife.

I've never had a lucid dream before and apart from my reccuring dreams I've never been able to remember even the slightest details of any of my dreams. This dream was almost too vivid for me to comprehend.

But now I realise I couldve done much more than I did, like flying is supposed to be a relaxing thing to do, but would this have woken me up?

However I have to ask, does any part of my dream being so dark and creepy mean anything, and what are good ways to be able to make my lucid dreams more stable and longer lasting?

      Welcome to DV!

Rubbing your hands is a good way to stabilize your dream. Shouting "Clarity!" will also help. Observing detail in a dream can help prolong and stabilize it.Keep a dream journal to help recall. And don't worry about not being able to fully control your dreams, it happens to even the most experienced lucid dreamers, since every dream is different. I didn't learn to fly until my sixth lucid dream, and i didn't wake up from it.

I just read about staying lucid on the home page. Spinning in the dream is a good one I hear. Sometimes dreams can be dark and foreshadowing, I think this is common with a lot of lucid dreamers. I don't think it means anything bad for you, so don't worry about it. Lucid dreams, for me, can be pretty scary sometimes, the setting can be dark and what not, but you can always change that setting if it's uncomfortable. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the advice on keeping it stable.

Although I really happy about having my first LD I did feel slightly dissapointed that I didn't think to fly, but now that I know it just takes a little while to do it I can't wait to have another LD

the threads title makes me sad. Your first LD (way better than my first) was the foundation of whats to come! it was a stepping stone, look at what you've acomplished, be proud. A good mentality will keep the lucid dreams coming. Don't be down, be proud and keep up the good work! Congrats on your first!

The dragon thing sounds cool! In my first lucid I ran down a corridor and into a dirty toilet, peed in a bin, told a creepy stalker to get the hell away from me and kissed someone I didn't know.

Yeah, not really too extrodinary either Now that you've had your first one though, it's not "the unknown" anymore, which makes things easier.

My advice is lots of WBTBs!! Good luck, I'm sure you've got plenty of AWESOME lucids to come

My biggest problem in LDs, is no goal/target. From the information Ive read, and personal experience:
For your first few lucids, either dont try anything big like flying etc, follow the dream while making an effort to keep lucid and a good level of clarity for as long as you can.
      Or
Have a small target decided beforehand, that you WILL attempt in your next lucid dream.

In my next lucid, Im just gonna follow the dream, while maintaining good lucidity and clarity
      just lol...

I've had many lucidity experiences before having my first "lucid dream" per se, you know that sometimes you get to realize that you are dreaming and you just wake up and move on with your life, after i started investigation about this, a couple of months later without even trying i had my first experience (after being aware about what i could do) and it was a bit odd for me:

When i realized i was dreaming i got so excited, i saw a friend and i tried to rip off my tongue out of my mouth to show him that i was dreaming and nothing was going to happen, but i could not do it, then i try to fly and jumped as high as i could, but i was unstable and could not maintain myself floating, the more i tried, the heavier my body got, so i saw an edge from far and tried to run to it to jump from it and fly, but my body was getting heavier with every step, i was so excited, that i woke up before reaching the edge.

While i was waking up, i felt my body falling down slowly to my bed, like when you just had an astral projection.

So much detail, I love it. It's always frustrating when you wake up from a memorable dream, don't give up though!
