So my friend and I just recently started getting really interested in trying lucid dreaming. This past Sunday, actually. We'd read only very little, but decided to try a few things. I drew X's on the palms of my hands to make me question, mantra before going to sleep, but that was it. I didn't really expect a whole lot to happen right away. But anyways, Monday night before going to bed, I looked at my hands, asked myself if I was dreaming... no I wasn't. Went to bed, mantra, and that was all.

This was the dream. If there was something before this, I don't remember at all. Nothing. It starts with me asking "Am I in a dream?" Major WOAH moment, because just by asking it I realized that I was, and that made me very suddenly quite aware of what has happening.. I was sitting on the edge of my bed. I looked at the palms of my hands, then went over to flip a light switch. The lights were on in my room (though in reality they were off) and of course the switch did nothing. I thought it was awesome. So some spinning and more light switches later, I find myself very abruptly awake. My alarm was going off.

So now that I've done more research, I'm wondering what caused me to go lucid. There was no DILD, I don't think, because I have no recollection of anything at all before that. Just the question, and boom, there I was. I find it hard for it to be a result of repeating "I will be aware in my dreams" before going to sleep, since that was at the very beginning of the night and this dream was clearly at the very end of it. Could it just be that it happened because I'd just gotten interested and excited about it, so it was in the forefront of my mind? Luck? Should I not count on it happening this simply again?
