      Unintentional WILD

I know that shared dreaming is categorized for Beyond Dreaming, but I don't think it was an actual lucid shared dream I had, since I didn't meet the person I intended to meet, so I figured it would be appropriate to put here.

I have a goal of meeting a certain friend of mine on DV through shared dreaming, and the fact that I did a WILD without even wanting to amazed me.

I tossed and turned, trying to incorporate all sorts of techniques from other WILD guides like it was second nature to me.

I kept my eyes closed most of the time trying to sleep, and then when I make a final turn, I go start to see images flash by quickly and entered the dream state. It ended up being a false awakening, but I did a nose plug RC to become lucid.

I was amazed that I was able to run fast without losing dream stability. I managed to get into a garden to meet Alyzarin, but when I did another reality check from another FA, I failed because I tried to do a transportation technique since I had mental image of the previous garden.

I feel happy that I did frequent RCs and dream stability techniques this time. WILDing feels little easier for me now, probably because I try to keep a daily dream journal to know how it feels like to be in a dream.

      Here's the DJ entry:

      Happy Dreaming Everyone.

      Congrats on the accidental WILD
How focused would you say as you were doing your attempt? Was your mind wandering?

I have never intended to WILD, because I can't fall asleep quickly. However I have had 3 unintentional WILDs (twice after WBTB, once randomly).

At first I was using a Mantra "I will have a lucid dream" and had the image of a certain area that me and a friend of mine would meet for potential shared dreaming, but after a while, I just started counting until my mind was clear with the intent of having a lucid dream. So my mind did wander a little bit because I had thoughts of the type of garden me and Alyzarin would hopefully meet, and other random things as well.

Then I thought that I should just forget it overall, purposely forget about awareness, and then hold on to it a little longer as I make conscious decisions to roll over to the other side. And each time I did that, I felt more comfortable, and finally when I left on my left side, BAM, started getting a slew of images and getting pulled into the dream, I held my breath a little longer than usual when that happened.

I thought I would be pulled in this time, but I just started to feel vibrations and everything just stopped. I thought I failed in my WILD attempt (I decided to just go with the WILD after giving up on the MILD, but wanted to give up on the WILD anyway lol, but I just happened to go into dream state consciously, it's just that I had to do a reality check.

So I guess I kind of had some effort, but not too much. I was doing the roll over to the side thing after a few minutes had passed, I just focused on my breathing throughout the whole process.

In a lot of the successful WILDs I read about (and in my own experience) it seems that it's necessary to maintain a 'free floating state of mind' as Raduga calls it. In other words to not try to force awareness or sleep but let the conscious mind wander as the sleep process progresses, as you mentioned in the OP you need to do like Spyguy suggests and 'give in order to get', and sacrifice consciousness in order to successfully fall asleep to WILD.

      How long was your WBTB?

I would said at least 20-30minutes (probably less because I had two hours to actually wake up again). I wasn't paying too much attention to the time. I spent the time staying up going on Dreamviews to reply to a friend of mine, and through her words, I became more motivated helping her resolve that burden within her.

I think that's what helped me become lucid, it's because I really wanted to see her, not just for my own self-interest, but for the sake of her own well being as a human being.

The last lucid I had before this one, I stayed up nearly over 90-100 minutes, and was able to go into a dream immediately after staying still and letting my mind wander a little bit.

I also find that I was too eager with WILDing to happen, I always thought that I needed a lot of time in order to be in a WILD, but I find that I really think that 2 minutes feels like forever, so I decided to not care about the time, how much effort I put in, I just decided to roll over until something happened, and to let my desire to help this friend of mine be the fuel that would help me become aware.

I hope this makes sense, I think that as long as I stay up for at least 15 minutes, but not too much, I can get into the dream state with ease after some fiddling around.

I can go into the dream state if I pass the 90 minute mark, but it takes a little longer, but not by a lot.

So it was that desire to help that gave you the drive to retain awareness? Maybe you could try and tap into that mental energy every time you WILD? There must be something you unlocked to give you the vigilance to remain aware

Yes, I slept with a positive mentality that I will meet the person, and I basically told my subconscious that I trust that it will help me carry out what I want to do.

I've been in conflict with my subconscious throughout my dreams because I just wanted to focus on personal goals, but I find that when there's someone important to me, my subconscious is a little more sympathetic. But I won't go into detail because I wouldn't want to make people get swayed into that thought process.

It's just when I care about someone rather than myself, I see that my dreams become more humanized rather than random. I'm still an amateur, despite my devotion to keep a daily dream journal, but I think I'm getting there.

I find myself being more serious in my lucids now, I have a purpose, and I already have several methods in helping this friend of mine. It's because of this reason that I realize that we really need to interact with people in our lives, even if it is just a few. Although others would think of this as some kind of chick-flick, I find that I'll understand myself more because I believe this person is a twin mirror.

And I believe there are more mirrors I can find and understand, it's just that I have to be willing to see their hatred, their wickedness to come to the conclusion that I am the same, and this will hopefully bring a state of peace knowing that we can finally understand each other beyond this world. This world is too limited for me to express my thoughts of what I feel, so in a way, that kind of mentality to devote my time in meeting this twin soul, this twin mirror, is the medium that I need to create the bridge in going from waking life to dreaming life with ease by WILDing (of course I'll have to follow realistic practices with REM and all, but the idealism is a good boost)

I know what you mean about the difference in dreams when you show altruism. For some reason I become very selfish when I become lucid, I ignore DCs, I concentrate on my own experience. In the long run I suspect my sub-conscious may punish me for it.
