      Question Problem with Short LDs

So, I've been having lucid dreams for a while now (And tend to get them on average every other week). There has been one occasion where I had a lucid that seemed to go on for a long time, but other than that it tends to usually be too short to get much of anything done... like two minutes. I'm not sure if it's a mental thing or if it has to do with when I go to bed and wake up. Any ideas on how to change this?

Something to note: only once has the realization I was dreaming caused me to wake up (When for no reason I was so shocked that I fell stumbled backwards and woke up ). Usually I realize I'm dreaming and start doing stuff (Start being the key word) before waking up.
"Out of the fog, into the smog (cough cough). Relentlessly... ruthlessly ('I wonder where Ruth is?'). Doggedly (bark bark)... towards his weekly meeting with... the unknown. At 4th and Drucker he turns left, at Drucker and 4th he turns right, he crosses MacArthur Park and walks into a great sandstone building (smack)."

Usually when you become lucid, your brain usually tries to wake you up. However, there are way to counter this, and they are called dream stabilization techniques. Here are some popular ones.
      1. Touch: Touch everything around you the minute you become lucid Touch the floor, the walls, buildings, grass, act. This will help "anchor" yourself in a dream.
      2. Spinning: Once a dream starts to look blurry or less vivid, spin around rapidly with your arms out for a good 10-20 seconds. You might end up in a completely different place, but the dream will re-stabilize.
      3. Look down at your hands and yell "Clarity Now!" when you look up, things should look more vivid and stable.
      4. Diving: When a dream is beginning to end, or whenever, dive into the ground. You will probably reach complete blackness, but than a completely new dream will open up. This is similar to DEILD in the sense that you can chain dreams.
      5. Rubbing Hands: If you become lucid in a blurry dream, or the dream is ending, rub your hands vigorously and the dreamscape will re-stabilize.

Note that not all of these techniques work for everyone! Try each one to see what works best for you. Hope this helped!

I'm on the same boat with you. All my lucids have been quite short... probably because i forget to stabilize the dream.
jblb2424's list is good. But i've heard that it's easy to loose lucidity when you change places/dream scene... remember to tell yourself occasionally "i am dreaming."
Don't you just hate it when sentences don't end like you expected them to octopus.
