1st Lucid Dream out of nowhere

I had my 'first' lucid dream last night completely out of nowhere, I wasn't trying at all.

It started with me 'waking' up in a car with my Dad. I was confused because I remembered being in my bed and immediately suspected this was just the ending of another dream I was waking up from (I'd already had several dreams that night). So I tried to just wake myself up which usually happens naturally but I couldn't. That has never ever happened to me before. At first I was a bit frightened but calmed down quickly as I figured, 'maybe my dad carried me from my bed to the car while I was sleeping' (he would sometimes carry me to my room when I was a kid after I fell asleep on the couch so I just extrapolated that idea. This is a completely absurd thought though since I'm 21 and live on the other side of the country...LoL, but it helped to calm me down).

As we were driving, and I was looking out the windows at the barren landscape, I still was not sure if I was dreaming or not. I got some assurance that I was dreaming when the car we were in floated up over a bus that had swerved sideways and later passed straight through another car that was in our way. The funny thing is that these things didn't seem all that crazy and unnatural in the dream, but I still pinpointed them as events that did not normally happen.

So by this point I was quite certain I was dreaming, but was extremely confused because I couldn't wake up (which again, never happens), so I asked my dad why what was happening right now was happening (I don't remember exactly how I phrased what I asked or exactly what the question was). He replied to me saying something about 'love' and I responded quickly saying something about him lying.

That's really all I remember from this dream except for a few small features that I saw out the window of the car. The landscape was barren, lots of brown dirt, The last thing I remember is a stoplight next to a large brown hill. There was so much more to this dream but I just don't remember (typical for me).

After the dream was over I had a 'false awakening' into another dream where I thought I was writing down the above dream. After I got out of that dream, no joke I had a second false awakening in which I was trying to jump up out of my bed after finishing with my first false awakening... blah.

When I finally did 'wake up' I had a sort of phase shift feeling, it didn't feel the same as waking up from normal dreams.

I have to say, this was one of the coolest experiences I've ever had and is topped only by a few other events I've experienced. Feeling like you're completely awake but knowing that you're in a dream is just... wow I'm really glad this finally happened . The Best part is I was completely exhausted last night and I usually can't remember my dreams at all when I fall asleep exhausted.

Yo and congrats on the first lucid dream!
Those false awakenings is the reason we all here do reality checks each time we we wake up, and i highly suggest you to do so too, they can be extremely confusing at times.
It's nice that you have already started dream journal, check out this thread: http://www.dreamviews.com/introducti...-dreaming.html for some general information on lucid dreaming and techniques and also you can visit the intro class: Intro Class , it's pretty good for beginners to start with lucid dreaming.
      Good luck!

Congratulations on your lucid dream. I would also recommend the same advice Checker666 is giving.

Could you define "phase shift feeling" ? Sounds interesting.

I don't know how to describe it really, it's happened a few times in the past when I've actually been trying to astral project or do something along those lines. When I 'wake up' my head will "feel heavier" or... I really don't know how to describe it, it's like waking up but different somehow. Maybe similar to the feeling of waking up quickly from a deep sleep. That's probably the best I can describe it. It really feels to me like a 'phase shift'.

I may know what you mean Like you wake up and your whole body (head especially) feels reeeally heavy and it feels like you've been frozen for like 20 days or so? Iv had somewhat these kind of experiences when leaving a long LDs. Hey great job with dream you shared, be aware of FAs. If RCs won't work just try to remember how you got to the point where you are (even if you are on your bed).
