      Question My first lucid dream!!

Hi y'all! As you can probably tell this is my first post and I'm new here. I've been trying to attain lucidity for a very VERY long time now...I started trying about a year ago, but usually stopped about a month of no success...however, since the summer started for me in may, I've been trying every day for the past 4 months to achieve lucidity...I started with trying hypnosis videos [jody whitley, which i'm sure a lot of people are familiar with] That didn't work...then i started trying the counting technique as I fell asleep [1...I am dreaming...2...I am dreaming...etc. etc.] and then a few other techniques...And recently i've tried some wild techniques [though they don't seem to be working either]

But enough of that, on to the lucid dream!

I had woken up during the night and couldn't fall asleep for at least an hour, and when I finally managed to pass out, I started to non-lucid dream. It started out by finding a huge plate sized spider in my bathroom and calling my father to come and kill it...when he did, he was trying to sneak up on it in this really weird golum-like manner. But when he killed it, a freakin' BAT flew out of it and into another room of the house, and then for some strange reason there was a giant mound of really awesome looking moths in my kitchen...when dad picked up the spider to throw it away, he looked straight at me, and for some reason, something in my brain clicked.

"Wait...this is...REALLY weird...OH MY GOD. I'M DREAMING." And I tried my best not to get very excited, but I had the biggest smile on my face...So naturally, the first thing i tried to do was fly [while my dad stared at me like I was crazy...]...unfortunately, All I did was jump in the air and then float down slowly. Well...eventually i got very determined...so determined that i just started to flap my arms like a bird. It sooorta worked..but i didn't get very hih and I would eventually land on the ground again...So eventually i went outside, and when i did, I though that I would change the scenery to a nice relaxing soothing beach...so i closed my eyes, putting my hands over my face and trying to visualize and tell my dream that when i opened my eyes, I would be on a beach....And then when I moved my hands away, I was shocked because I could NOT open my eyes! so i relaxed for a moment and told myself not to do that again, and that by opening my eyes, i wouldn't actually wake up.

So i ended up PRYING my eyes open with my fingers, and i was still in my front yard...which was a bit of a let down...so instead I just tried to walk back into the house and attempted to walk THROUGH my door as apposed to opening it. Well, Turns out I couldn't get that to work either...Let down and disappointed, i just opened the door and walked into the house and felt the world going black around me, realizing I was waking up. Before I could think to rub my hands together, i was already awake :C

Anyway, I would like to add that I HAVE been attempting the wild technique, but for whatever reason, I cannot make my body fall asleep [even if i stay relaxed and still for an entire hour] while my mind stays awake, and I never see hypnagogic hallucinations behind my eyes...and i'm always readjusting them to see closer, the mid-distance, and the far-distance to see if my eyes are just adjusted incorrectly...I also started keeping a dream journal the past three weeks...i never did it before because i'm already very good at remembering my dreams.

the one thing I haven't been doing it seems is trying to create dream signs [like pinching myself, clogging my nose, or counting my fingers], But it's only because I forget to do them...

Also if this topic is in the wrong place, I'm really sorry!

If someone could give me some tips or something, I'd really really appreciate it. Thanks <3

Congratulations!! First Lucid Dreams are always awesome! I think starting your dream Journal is what really helped you gain Lucidity. Even though you said you can remember your dreams pretty well without it. I always here people say the dream journal is the most important part of Lucid dreaming for many reasons. It helps with dream recall, it helps you to recognize dream signs that are common in your dreams. You should also really do reality checks in your waking life. Anytime you see something strange or out of the ordinary, question your reality and check if your dreaming. This will help you to question your reality in your dreams. On the WILD topic, have you been waking up in the middle of night and then trying the WILD technique? Its harder to stay awake but you will enter sleep paralysis much faster. Finally (sorry for the long reply, and you might already know this but..) what you did when you woke up in the middle of the night and stayed up for an hour then fell back to sleep is known as the Wake Back To Bed technique or WBTB. Many Lucid Dreamers use this technique to gain lucidity in there dreams and I've definitely had some Lucid dreams from WBTB. Again sorry if you already knew all this. Good luck with your Lucid Dreaming!

Yo, welcome to dreamviews and congrats on your first lucid dream!
Induction Methods and Techniques Here are some tutorials to check out, including tutorial on dream control. As for inducing dream signs i guess you mean reality checks? If you forget to do them try doing mantra at times, like "I remember to do reality checks", or use some kind of reminder.
As for WILD, don't wait for HH, WILD is not a waiting game and waiting can only make it harder to fall asleep, so just focus on your anchor and fall asleep while keeping awareness, and never focus on physical sensations. Also were you attempting WILD when going normally to sleep? If so, it's pretty unlikely to be successful because most of us are tired and used to drop consciousness at that time, so instead, WILD in WBTB or during naps. And finally, sleep paralysis/SP is not related to WILD, nor to lucid dreaming in general, there's alot of misconception about it and it's not possible to induce, i strongly suggest checking out those threads if you want to continue with WILD:

Awesome LD! Your first one was a lot longer than my first one was. Congratulations on your first Lucid Dream! I've had two--one about half a year ago; and one last night. One thing I can say possitively made a difference for me was my attitude. Last night I went to bed fully expecting I was going to have a LD. I had been reading people's dream journals (which you guys here have some awesome dreams to read about), and was feeling really good about it. So, while I myself am an inexperienced LDer, I can say having that attitude of really believing you are going to have a LD does seem to make a difference.

My experiences with WILD are similar to yours; Either I fall asleep too early, or I lie awake for an hour or more without actually getting where I need to be; although I do hit the hypnogagia stage. It's shortly after that I end up drifting off usually. Have you tried the MILD technique? That's what worked for me finally.

      Congrats a gain and welcome!

Holy hell, that sounds like a pretty cool LD. Ha, I bet your dad's face was priceless. My first lucid was a couple of nights ago and, well, I decided to go on a flying motorcycle. My lucidity didn't last long though.

I don't really have any tips for you, except for getting into the habit of doing reality checks everyday (if you aren't doing it already) so that it will carry on to your dreams. Hope that little bit of info helps!

Flying is something very hard to master, and yeah, your first is only a piece of cake, soon just like me (only got 4 lucid dreams, one of them was today) you'll get weekly lucid dream (with a chance of 60%)
