      Was It a Lucid Dream??

ok so basically I would just have woken up but its still kinda early so I try to go back to sleep and I start having a scenario of something going on but I can still wake myself up if I want to. I have some control so I thought I was just making stuff up in my head but then something happens that I had no control over like a dream. if something goes wrong I normally just wake myself up and then do everything again. so is that lucid dreaming??

I also say to myself that I am dreaming but I've tried to take a lot of control and end up waking up anyway

Wasn't really a lucid dream as you didn't have sufficient level of awareness, you were still tired so you went back into a light sleep where you probably saw a few fleeting images indicative of slipping back into a dream state, but essentially you could have woken up at any point. If this is a common occurrence for you, you might be able to use DEILD to great effect. Go check it out.

I think Marm is exactly right here. Sounds like maybe you were seeing hypnagogic imagery. The DEILD idea is solid as well. It works best when you come directly out of lucidity and are still in the hypnopompic state. Normally, most of us folks spend a few moments bumbling over random thoughts in hypnopompia before full awaking, and by that time (at least for me) it is too late. If you end up finding yourself in this state a lot, go for it, and have some cool dreams! Just close your eyes, check out the grayness, and wait for a dream to form.
