      WILDing Myself to Sleep

I know that sleep patterns put you in a deep sleep with minimal brain activity first and then you go into the normal pattern of REM and semi-deep sleep. I wanted to overcome this and if possible make it permanent to have the REM period first. Imagine if instead of having a lucid randomly in the middle of the night, you could have one at the beginning of the night and you don't have to worry about how much sleep you'll actually be getting that night and if it'll be enough for a lucid.

Last night I tried a WILD when I went to bed and I had some success. I let myself fall closer and closer to sleep and when I felt I was close enough I attempted to disconnect from my body. I imagined I had a different set of arms that were at my side and pushing me up away from the mattress. I had the strangest sensation in my chest and started to feel tingles all over my body. I've read all about sleep paralysis but never have experienced it myself. It was amazing. The tingles turned into a vibration. The hypnotic images on my eyelids went crazy. The tingles stopped and suddenly it felt as if a curtain was lifted from my eyes. I was no longer staring at my eyelids but instead I was staring into a dark room. Slowly light began to shine into the room and I saw a couch begin to form. I got really excited... and woke myself up. I was so close.

Tonight I will try again but I will attempt to stay calm to fully enter a lucid. I wonder if the lucid will be unstable because it is unnatural for your brain to be in a dream state so early in the night.

Does anyone have any information on this to help with my little study?

If I am not mistaken sleep pattern is pretty much set. So REM always goes last or is always the last stage. Keep calm.......you should keep calm........ did I mention you should keep calm? Step one of dreaming is stabilization if your dream is unstable it will collapse. Keeping your emotions in check is also a key factor when your emotions get to high this can also cause you to wake up. There are many a stabilization technique like rubbing your hands together, focusing on something, touching the ground, spinning (not recommended for beginners), and shouting out commands.

yeah one time I achieved lucidity by just sleeping at nigt, but I had a nap before then and I think I read somewhere that if you nap before you sleep you can get lucid. But other than that I just fall asleep before I can get into sleep paralyisis. i think its safer to wild in the middle of the night, but lets see if your teqnique works. it could save me alot of trouble
Dreaming is forgetting the basis of reality, remembering it is to be lucid.

last night I failed. :/ Didn't even get to SP. It was too loud in my house and the neighbors dog was barking up a storm. I had so much trouble holding my concentration. Hopefully tonight I'll have an easier time.

Changing the natural sleep physiology would certainly be difficult However some do, like "polyphasic sleep" / "uberman sleep schedule". I never did it myself, but I think that in those schedules you enter REM stage faster (because you train your body to hurry up getting all the sleep stages in the very short sleep period allowed).

I did WILD on the evening maybe twice. It was more difficult than in the morning, and faaaaaar longer. I think it took me 2 hours (I naturally need 1h to fall asleep usually). My guess is that during those 2 hours I actually did a low-quality version of the normal sleep phases (calm mind, body resting) and the REM stage eventually occured, so I didn't really reversed the natural order.
      Dec. 2006 - July 2007:
      92 DILDs + 30 WILDs ; 75% too short, 24% decent, ~3 of 2 to 5 minutes
      (I stopped counting after that)

Yes that's exactly what happened. You just have to hold your concentration through it and don't fight it. It feels so awesome. I failed again last night. Had a ton on my mind and just couldn't concentrate. Hopefully tonight will be better.

I was so close to WILD last night. I was both aware of being in a dream and at the same time being in my real bed. this happens to me a lot. the dual perception always loses focus and i wake up

I know exactly what your talking about. I had the same thing happen last night but not when I went to bed but rather in the middle of the night.

I got to sleep paralysis again last night but right after that my sister flushed a toilet and scared the crap out of me.

I've tried getting to SP twice and I think I may have gotten close. I feel like my mind is awake the whole time and once in a while I let myself go into sort of a dream. The problem is that when I realize that I'm watching this dream like thing it goes away fast. I'm still in a very relaxed state close to falling asleep. Also once in a while I start to move without wanting to. Am I supposed to stay completely still the whole time? And if I have an itch should I scratch it? I've heared you can trick your body into thinking your sleep by ignoring it...and I've also heared you can scratch it but just don't think about it too much

Sounds like there's still quite a lot of noise in your house at night. I'd recommend getting some earplugs. By blocking off your hearing, you might also find it improves the realism of your LD when you have one - that's what I've found with non-lucids anyway.
So I had my first OBE the other day... I was completely beside myself!

      Yes, let it flow.

Is it possible? That's what I'm trying to figure out. So far all I know is that it's possilbe to get close to WILDing to sleep.
