      Creepy SP episode.

I kinda woke up a bit last night. I felt something was pulling me down and off the bottom of the bed. I could feel my body moving down.

I snapped out of it and woke up shouting. My wife was reading in bed next to me. She got a bigger fright than I did.

My guess, I woke up in SP and gave myself a scare!

Or was it a "hypnic jerk", where it feels like tripping and you wake up in panic ?
      Dec. 2006 - July 2007:
      92 DILDs + 30 WILDs ; 75% too short, 24% decent, ~3 of 2 to 5 minutes
      (I stopped counting after that)

Sounds more like a night terror than a hypnic jerk... "Pulling/moving down" seems slower than the sudden falling/tripping in a hypnic jerk. Also doesn't explain the screaming. Night terror explains the screaming, but the feeling doesn't match up (unless the pulling/moving was scary or made him feel uneasy). In night terror, people usually feel fear, anxiousness, or uneasiness, not really a movement...

Maybe it was hypnopompic SP. You were exiting a dream, consciously felt SP, continued sleeping ==> Night terror.

      Just a guess. *shrugs*

That reminds me of a Nightmare of Elm Street movie. Freddy is living below your bedsheets

That reminds me. My girlfriend and I were out of town this weekend. We got back, and I climbed into bed first. She lifted the covers to get in bed, looked in, and screamed. Man, I was out faster than a fat kid in dodge ball. I guess she thought she saw something beneath the blankets. I had all kinds of nightmares about what sort of creature could have decided to live in our bed while we were out of town.

oh man that must have been horrible in my house first thing that would come to mind if my gf did that would be that a huge spider was in the bed, cause I get those in my room daily

Actually I used to get night terrors a lot. When I was a kid I used to wake up and see a black hole in the ceiling trying to suck me in!

Even as an adult its continued to effect me (though not so much with evil black holes).

But now I've started to understand the science of sleep and dreaming, if find it easier to calm down afterwards.

Wasn't a hypnic yerk - had plenty of those in my time.
It lasted a good few seconds, and I definitely felt like I was moving down the bed. Of course when I woke up properly I hadn't moved.

So ill go with early SP.

Or maybe your wife was acutally trying to murder you but you woke up.

I've been there before. My girlfriend is a professional martial artist who suffers from terrible hypnic jerks (well, I'm the one who ends up suffering). You'd be surprised how many times I've been punched in the face while asleep or woken up to a krav-knee in the junk. Nasty stuff.

That's how most of my lucid dreams occur. Something starts pulling me and my body slides down the bed and off to the floor. The first time it happened to me I was terrified too. After a while I realized that if I just relaxed and focused on sleeping that when I got to the floor I knew that I could open my eyes where'd I be 100% lucid.

These events happen randomly so I have to wait for the next time it happens (sometimes weeks or even months) to get back to lucid dream world. This may not be what's happening to you but it really scared me the first time it happened. The next time it happens try not to panic, relax and see what happens.

My sister was next to me, I was in Sleep paralysis...I heard a really deep growling sound and I felt like I was being pulled UP towards the ceiling and being smothered into it! I was tryin to scream so I could move my body again...my sister lauged at me during the whole thing LOL Wasnt funny at the time.
