      Has this happened 2 anyone.

One night I was watcing a documentary dealing on the human brain and all its complexities. While watching I start 2 drift off but its like I go from being awake 2 that nirvana or halfway place between awake and sleep

While im there bearing in mind that it is dark I can still hear the TV. The segment that is playing at the time is one about relaxing of the mind and I can hear the voice of the narrator talking about Tibetan monks. Now every time the word relax is spoken my mind or brain does exactly that.

It felt as though my mind is in an elevator and it is going down into deeper levels. Floor by floor, the sensation is strange and very different 2 anything ive felt before. I am in control and I am allowing myself 2 go deeper

I felt as though I was being hypnotised. I reach a point where I feel as though if I proceeded 2 go deeper into this state of relaxation that I would lose total control of myself.

I cannot hear the TV anymore but it is still dark. I am beginning 2 become a little afraid. The cool thing about it is that I still feel as though I can wake myself at any point but my control of this is becoming weaker the deeper I go.

I decide 2 not go any further...chicken and so wake myself but its very different this time. I am having trouble waking which ive never had a problem with before except 4 one other time.

Once I finally wake the documentary is still on and im lookin at 5 Tibetan Monks meditating?? I felt like I was in this halfway state for at least an hour but when I look at the time only 7 or 10 minutes has passed??

I still wonder what if...maybe I shouldnt have chickened out.

Hmm, 2 possible things could have happened.

1: You were going deeper into sleep paralysis. And you couldn't wake yourself up that easily.

2: You were jumping to the levels of sleep. And that elevator feelings is the same for me, since there are actual levels of sleep that go lower and lower.

haha. that bit made me laugh

hmm.. maybe when you have another dream like that, let the elevator go deeper and deeper and see what happens. at the end of the day, nothing can hurt you and all you are doing is experimenting. hope this helps

Yeah, I've had this too. Although the elevator senstation can be going into the different states of sleep, I also know it can be about going deeper into your subconscience. This also makes sence because you felt like you would loose yourself if you went any deeper, there is a point where your conscience self can't go anymore. I hope this helped!

I have experienced conscious dreamless sleep before. My experience has been that dreamtime/formlessness/dreamless sleep is a timeless state with no beginning or end. I also experience it as a vast period of time space reality if that makes any sense. I percieve the element of time to be synonymous with infinite space. It is very weird but very cool.

I'd say if this were my experience that it was glimpsing the true nature of mind or reality: empty, infinite & full.

Realize that it is the ego that fears. It fears loss & craves gain. When the boundries of form fall away the ego has to move beyond its fear.

You might want to research the Tibetan Yogas of dream & sleep, that and Yoga Nidra.

      At any rate congratulations!
Thought plus emotion creates attitude. Attitude plus action creates experience and experience determines reality

wow...yes that does help thankyou. your very right in saying that the elevator sensation is like different states of sleep because that is how it felt. Also the part about going deeper into the subconscience that makes alot of sense. I did feel 4 a part there that it was like I could have unlocked some kind of savant like abillity....real strange.
also Lauren6.. Ive always felt as though nothing can hurt me in dreamland but that all changed the night I had an extremely freaky dream 8 years ago. I have never told anyone about this dream but lets just say it changed me. Basically I was attacked in this dream, hurt and when I awoke my body was in pain. The sensations were sort of the same hence the reason why I refrained from venturing any further.
Maybe one day ill be able 2 post this dream....thankyou though I appreciate all feedback

That's cool that you said that about going into your subconscious and unlocking some type of ability. I have always wondered about the possibilities of doing an action in a dream and try to really analyze the physics of it and the processes in your "dream brain" then maybe it's possible to bring some idea of it into the real world. If you don't mind me asking, what type of ability do you have in mind when you talk about that?

I have had instances where I felt like I was getting deeper into my own mind, but whenever that happens it gives me a really creepy feeling that makes my skin crawl and I always chicken out too. I don't really know what I am scared of, but it's just a really intense feeling telling me not to go further.
Why does the eye see more clearly in dreams than the imagination when awake?

Sorry about the late reply...Im not sure of the feeling that led me to believe that I could unlock some kind of ability... It was real wierd... I guess I could liken it to how a blind person can tell when hes walking in the Sun.

One thing I remember was this tiny fuzzy sensation right at the centre of my brain you could say...I was able to move this fuzzy feeling to the front of my head (just above my eyes) with just a thought then I moved it to the back of my head to the right. This is where I started to think, maybe I can concetrate this fuzz(ill call it fuzz) and unlock maybe past memories once forgotten or dreams and even abilities.

This may sound a little far fetched but I know what I felt...as for what type of ability- quite possibly memory orientated. I have been able to memorise a deck of playing cards ever since I was young so naturally I felt the urge to maybe enhance this. If I had the choice though it would have to be numbers and math Rain Man style hahaha.
