      Unfortunate False Awakening

So last night I was having probably the most focused LD that I've ever had. My goal from previous LD's was to wait to fly until I'm focused and have done either the spinning thing, or the rubbing my hands together thing.

While I was able to wait to fly, it wasn't long enough because after about 20 seconds of walking around, I took off.

In the air I remembered the idea of spinning to prolong or change an LD, so I gave it a try.

I entered this weird corkscrew motion while flying and the blur eventually settled into a forest setting.

I then remembered that I should rub my hands together. Now I've heard that this can increase the vividness and real-ness of LDs but I guess I was underestimating this because this action led straight into an extremely convincing False Awakening.

Any suggestions? (other than just remembering how vivid a dream becomes after rubbing your hands together?)

A friend once told me the following. When you investigate your hand, relaxed, detail should first increase in your hand. After a while, when you feel comfortable you can look around you and see the detail flow from your hand to the whole dream scene. This works. I used it a lot before I could just chill out. But be aware! At first I overused it and my dreams became boring because they were too realistic...

I usually pick up things and investigate the scenery closely, that always makes my dreams a lot more vivid. Haven't really thought about that it can induce false awakenings, I'm kinda of used to do RC's on a regular basis when I'm lucid.

The same abilities do not work well for every one. Spinning most of the times works good for me, however, I can prolong the lucid just with a mental though.

In one lucid, I was flying heading to Egypt. I did not like the quality of the dream so I gave a shot to rub hands. I lost height immediately. I kept rubbing my hands and I woke up (I was moving at the same time, so it was not due non moving my eyes which causes REM to stop) Rubbing hands screws me, I only tried once, but well, other methods always worked... and I have been having lucids since I was a small kid.

Btw... False Awakening is my second name. On several of my dreams and most if not all lucids, I end up / begin with a False Awakening. I end up liking them though. There is a big chance for me to become lucid after a FA. I chained three lucids in a row due this

Watch out doing that. Staring at your hand or whatever will be a guaranteed awakening (real one) because you stop moving your eyes so your eye movement rem phase freezes and your mind awakes.
Click the door... and welcome to my dream world!

Might be a good idea to RC when you wake up, too. If you make a habit of checking, you can get lucid whenever you get an FA.

I pick up a half-eaten copy of a book by Neil Gaiman, and decide this is all his fault.
