Nightmares mix up with reality during sleep Paralysis

Hey guys I hope someone can give me some advice about this.

I sometimes used to wake up from sleep so I just lay there in bed, which usually is no problem. But sometimes when I wake up and stay paralyzed, therefore I see the room around me, I see the ceiling, the window, lamp and everything in the room, my body isn't awake, just like in sleep paralysis so I can't move.

Now what used to happen to me in that situation is that the reality I see around me mixes up with what I'm dreaming. So when I dream of a person this person uddenly is in my room tanding next to my bed bending over me. these things are really scary considering the fact that they seem completely real and of course that I can't move.

I've had some terrible experiences like that when nightmare-ish dreams mixed up with reality in my mind.

now my question to you guys. has anyone of you ever experienced that? if so, did you come over it and how? I really want to learn how to handle this.

      greet, Demii

Yes! Before I knew what lucid dreaming was I used to get what you are describing on occasion. It would scare the hell out of me. I soon learned how to use it to enter a lucid dream. In fact I consider it ideal during WILD or DEILD technique.

The next time you get this, especially if you see dream characters in your room, try an "exit technique" or just close your eyes and visualize a new scene. There are many ways but, one thing that I do with much success since it is hard to "move" is to just relax and calmly imagine your feet floating up and over the side of you bed. As soon as you "feel" the floor on your feet you may find yourself standing in a dream version of your room. Then, you'll be free to do as you please.

Remember any thing you see is a dream and not real. BUT, If for any reason the experience becomes too much and you want to bail; Try holding your breath for a few seconds. You should immediately wake up. It's rare but sometimes I just want the dream to be done.

Yes That's exactly how I became aware of lucid dreaming. I have tried to use it for getting lucid but usually when this happens these nightmares start before I "wake up" into paralysis. So when I realise that I'm in my room with the dream characters the nightmare is almost over anyway.

So what I'm trying to say is that even though I'm aware at the moment I'm in paralysis that this isn't real, the biggest part of the nightmare is mostly already over. I have to find out how to realise that I'm dreaming before i wake up into this Halfway woke up state.

How is this called by the way if your body is paralyzed but your mind is awake?

I will try to visualise how you said, this sounds like a good idea Usually I have problem falling asleep after such an experience but I'll try it.
thanks for the "holding breath" idea, I was looking for some kind of emergency brake. The movie "Insidious" kinda scared me from going deeper^^

I think a dream exit induced lucid dreaming (DEILD) technique will help you. DEILD will help you get back into that half dream state so you can work with it more and get used to those nightmarish images. I have had many frightening encounters but the thing I constantly remind myself is that it is all my doing and none of it is real.

It is either sleep paralysis or most likely REM atonia
