You seem to be confusing the academic meaning of 'philosophy' with the pop culture version.

What could it mean if these extra-dimensions are true? I think it means that reality is so much bigger, deeper and fuller than we have ever percieved it to be. If we take the light spectrum as an example, would we still feel the same way about life if we could see it glow?
As yuppie says, what does it mean for the 'light spectrum' to 'glow'?

I don't know what reality being 'deeper' means exactly, but as to the idea that our perceptions cause us to create superficial models of reality, I already said that in the very first sentence of my very first post. This is important for epistemology, which is a branch of philosophy (your 'perception of life' on the other hand, is not). So now I'm wondering if you did anything more than skim what I said?

This really has nothing to do with philosophical vs. "objective scientific" truth.

In physics the word "dimension" has a precise meaning. (A couple actually but only one concerns us here)
It's essentially just the number of basis vectors you need for assigning coordinates . For curved spaces (manifolds), you need vector fields instead. But it's basically the same thing.

Now, this whole thread is predicated on the assumption that "dimension" means something else. It most certaintly does when Omnis says it.

      Hence there's confusion.

String theory says something along the lines of "The universe can be modeled with X (mathematical) dimensions."
Omnis hears this as "The universe can be modeled with X (of my) dimensions."

This is not good philosophy. We may as well not even have words if we're just going to substitute them like that. What's the point unless you're making a point? And what's your point?
This is not good spirituality. You might as well toss bones to figure out how many dimensions there are.

The two meanings have nothing to do with each other. Trying to mix them is bad.

The first response to this thread was basically Xei saying exactly that...

I was talking about dimensions the way you described it PS. But you were so busy proving me wrong on a point I already reconciled was a scalar field, you failed to see my intention.

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.

      ^^^^^^^^

How can it have a precise meaning whilst having a couple other definitions?
Just because you choose whatever is convenient to you, doesn't make it gospel.
Another random new guy with a high post count...

To exemplify an answer to your ques, just think of 3 guys in the same room, named "John". Same name - different people.

Now just quietly watch while the other guys eat their scraps

Yeah. Anybody that tries to think clearly is a troll.

Precisely. You've figured out our evil secret.

I haven't actually read what Xei or Somii wrote, I'm too tired for this shit at this point in time. I just know from experience that they are trolls, so I assume they have nothing of value to add because they've never offered anything of value to a conversation in the past.

Something about crying wolf. You use enough fallacies and eventually no one reads your posts anymore.

In regard to your post, all I read was the part where you claimed I wasn't talking about what I was talking about >.>

Alright dude. Guess you'll lie to the very end. Your type in this world is dangerous, for your type is responsible for spreading misinformation that leads others into an existence of delusion. Thus, in the interest of arriving to a world without delusion, there should be men like me to criticize and filter the trash that plagues our potential, spread by 'prophets' like you.

You seem to have somewhat sensed this already, from your defensiveness to the uncomfortable pressure that has applied on you - that pressure you feel when your mind is telling you that something is trying to end your existence.

and he has a way better chance of crawling onto it than you do...until you are willing to admit that you are wrong and work hard.

Dude, you can't make up my claim and then say I need to admit I'm wrong about the claim YOU MADE UP FOR ME! I have acknowledged every single possible inaccuracy that I intended. Twisting my words into a different claim and then defeating it doesn't make you right, it makes you a fallacious douche.

      yeah, yeah, yeah.

When I broke free of the Rational Materialist model, I decided that I was wrong to think you're a fallacious douche.

      Then I realized that I wasn't.

As you were. There are smarter people (Xaq, Taosaur, Dannon, fuck even Juroara, etc.) on the irrational-immaterialist "side" (hahahahahahahah) for me to talk to. Just forget we ever talked until you want to learn to think properly.

Keep it up, you're bound to make friends with that line of thinking. Your misjudgment of me has told me all I care to know of your character (or lack thereof)

What happened to this thread? It went downhill!

In two or three dimensions? Or four!?

Seriously can you guys revive this thread?

I'm willing to continue this discussion, so long as other participants refrain from strawmen and ad hominem and ask questions to help articulate these ideas rather than just shut them down.
