Interesting new study hot of the presses

And an easier to read article talking about that study:
Seeking Roots of Consciousness, Scientists Make Dreamers Self-Aware

It's finals week, so I've only had time to skim the lay mans article. But it seems to me that if what they're claiming is true, then this is a huge step forward for the science behind lucid dreaming.

Some possible discussion points
  • critiques of the study, was it conducted properly, any obvious flaws/limitations
  • Does the lay man article accurately describe the results of the study, or are they sensationalizing it?
  • beyond understanding lucid dreaming, how useful might this method be for studying consciousness?
  • Implications for lucid dreaming in general, is it a good thing if we develop an easy route to lucidity, or will something be lost if people no longer have to undergo extensive training?
