Maybe you mean about 5 seconds of euphoria as opposed to 40 seconds of horrible desparation.

I'm not saying that a lot of people wouldn't find drowning terrifying. However, some people feel that that small amount of euphoria is worth it. Why do people take meth?

Also, keep in mind that even after the heart stops, there is still brain activity for a time afterwards as there is still some measure of oxygen left (just not in the lungs). Theoretically, when a person's body died initially, they could be in the most vivid dream of their life, freed from all physical holds. To some people, the idea is enticing.

i would choose drowning...if i had to kill myself that is how i would do it,i would drown myself.
i say this because i very nearly drowned when i was ten.i was surfing and i had just learned how i was on a wave but i lost control and wiped out.i thrashed and kicked as hard as i could but i couldn't find the surface even with my eyes open.it was terrifying.i had no idea which way was up.i swallowed sea water twice.i felt my body relaxing and i wondered if i was going to heaven or hell.i forced myself to remain concious even though i was passing out.then i reached my arm up and felt my board above me.i grabbed it and climbed on.i lay half on as it carried me to shore.there was a bad rip tide and i thought i was going to go back out to sea.i struggled to land for at least ten minutes without the life guard noticing anything.i finally made it and laid in the sand panting and puking water.it was the single most exuasting thing that has ever happened to me.i was shaking and yelling at the life guard to help but he never noticed.i could have easily drowned that day and none would have known.it was an odd expirience and i think i only want to die that way because i have already expirienced most of it except the death part.

But the point of the question is not to say what would probably happen, it's to choose what you would prefer. Would you prefer to burn?

I would rather die burning. Dieing by drowning means I was trapped. I don't want to die trapped.

You could die being burned in a box or you could drown in the ocean. Death is a trap in and of itself. There's no escape.

...though I have heard scientists are working on a cure for death. No major breakthroughs as of yet (except perhaps in the dream I had a few nights ago).

But if you burned it's not because you were trapped? It's because you chose to stay in a situation where you were burned alive??

I know really, how do burn except if you were trapped?

Unless you spontaneously combust or explode or something.

I heard a story about a high school Metal Tech class. Those classes usually have gas faucet things to run Bunsen burners and such. Well some idiot kid inhaled the gas to get high. So he had this gas inside his body. Some other kid dropped a piece of metal that sparked when it hit the ground. The gas kid burst into flame, kept walking for like four seconds then dropped dead as the flames went out. The gas caused him to burn from the inside. He didn't even scream or anything, probably didn't know he was burning.

      True story o.O

Well drowning because burning actually excights the pain recepters, and makes pain much more intense, drowning can be a quite peaceful experience after the panic stage ends.

I know sometimes it's diffrent such as an explosion with fire might end it quickly, and a person who despritly wants to live can suffer in water pretty bad, I just get this information from reading about near death experiences so much, and articles on diffrent ways people die.

I really couldn't imagine what it would feel like to drown, though. I mean, just the thought of it seems so alien. It wouldn't quite be just like suffocation, where you just deprive yourself of oxygen. Your lungs would actually fill with water, which might cause involuntary coughing and gagging. And imagine of the water getting up your nose. Hell, that burns just when I get a few drops in, in the pool. Haha.

Allegedly, the brain can survive without oxygen for approx 4-5 minutes. So even after your body has (likely) begun involuntarily grasping for oxygen (meaning causing you to breathe in, even though you know you are underwater) you're going to have some quality time with the sensation of having your respiratory system fill with water, probably rather forcefully.

Not to say that there is any way in HELL that I would choose burning over drowning, but still: I believe that, without a certain level of control and detachment (which not everyone has) drowning definitely wouldn't be a walk in the park.

Your brain might not register the pain of water entering your respitory system as much...you might be less aware of everything as your oxygen deprived brain starts to shut down.

That's true. Even without any oxygen loss, it's said the the body doesn't quite register pain from the internal organs as much (and maybe there would be no pain, aside from getting water in your sinuses, maybe - that part was entirely theoretical), because it's not used to receiving and pinpointing visceral pain. So yeah, that may take some of the discomfort off.

I would rather drown than burn. I almost died drowning. I gave up and let go. I was saved, obviously. I panicked then I gave up and relaxed. I inhaled salt water. I was at the ocean I got caught in a rip tide. The worst thing about dying from an accident is the embarrassment. But if I could die anyway I wanted, besides in my sleep, I would choose freezing to death. I almost died freezing to death also, of hypothermia. I had to fight to stay alive and keep my wits. I never gave up but I thought about it. It would have been very easy, just give up and go to sleep.

Freezing would be horrible. No way, no way. Not ever. It's okay to look on the TV and see cold people and think "I could take that..." but when you are the actually cold you feel miserable (at least I do) and I am not exactly from a warm climate, living in Colorado.

Yeah I often thought I'd never like to die freezing I mean I like cool breezes and everything, but being really cold can be very uncomfterbal and miserable.
