You're 16 years old. Your hormones are all over the place. Everybody goes through this. I certainly did. You'll get over it, don't worry - there's nothing wrong with you.

Does the process in getting out of this require you to be 17 or over?

"Getting out of this" requires for your brain to develop a bit more. By 16 your brain is essentially adult-like but with a few important differences. Factor in the hormonal changes associated with puberty and you've got a moody, short-sighted teenager. It's not a special phenomenon associated with being exactly 16, it's just adolescence in general.

I agree with DuB. It's your hormones. There's a really good way of relieving all this 'stress'.

If I were you, I would find a hobby and fast. I would spend more time outside playing sports or something that would help get your energy out.

Why does school stress you out?

Try to be nice to the people around you. Being rude to others never helps, no matter how horrible you might be feeling on the inside.

Whether this has to do with hormones or not, you can control these feelings if you want to. There's no excuse for acting up around people.

Sounds like you are depressed. Depression in teens is often mistaken for hormone-induced angst. I was really depressed from about the age of 12 to around 14 and I was sometimes suicidal. My parents just thought I was hormonal. I didn't get help, but I wish I had . . .

In my opinion I would say yes. Angst is understandable in adolescence. But what your describing is more than that. That feeling that never quite goes away, that lunges at you when your completley alone for the first time in a while. I know that well, sometimes the tears come before that horrid gutwrench does. Sad times. The rage sneaks up just the same, but only on the days that part of me refuses to die a little more... just to live another day in the shackles of humanity.

Anyway, A hobby is a great suggestion. Doesn't matter what, as long as you enjoy it and it keeps your mind off other things that aren't so pleasant. Though, I've come to realize even though people that are truly depressed may be assholes at times. Or blow you off to be alone or whatever. The self-awareness of their actions is unprecidented to those of people who are just floating through life, raping the resources around them as they move on like the virus we are. I seriously think every one of us would be a better person if they've stared down the barrel of a shotgun at atleast once. Only because the people that haven't have never even thought of taking a day to analyze their life instead of live it. Though I digress... don't know how I ended up here anyway.

Hormonal changes are affecting the way you percieve the world around you. Things seem more serious than it actually is. I was like you only thing was mine was accompanied by being bullied in school....just hang in there.

Everybody that in ageneral sense feels "down" is depressed. There are infinite different levels of Depression.

It's nothing out of the ordinairy or worrying for a human being to, every now and then, be depressed for a period of time. Sometimes Life just puts you in painfull/stressfull situations. It's all in the Realm of "Don't worry about it" as long as your depression doesn't cause you to go out of your mind with pain/stress/fear(Negative emotions), or cause you to become anti-social and disfunctional.

When I feel bad, and I have quite servere, lengthy depressions at times, I try to refrain from any great decision-making (Intense emotions+Decisions=Regret) and if I feel totally shit and worthless I tend to isolate myself from human contact( So I can't mess up my social contacts and so I can get some time to think about my problems without distraction)

Also I can tell you if you're feeling so hurt/stressed you can't take it anymore and just feel like screaming and running through concrete walls to just get rid of the unbearable feeling:

Sleeeeeep. Sleep has often been the remedy for me in case my pain became too much to bear. Also when asleep you cannot hurt yourself or others. Dreamtherapy. You'll notice that everyday you wake up with a totally new state of mind/emotional state, so if your emotional state sucks bigtime, chances are that after a good, long slumber your Mindstate is totally changed for the better.
Another magical remedy I have found to pull of miracles is when you feel like crying, don't just cry, SING instead. What it does for me is make my Pain become a Beautyfull WONDERFULL, acceptable feeling instead of an undesirable, unbearable feeling. Don't know if it works for you the way it does for me, but I thought it'd be worth mentioning. That singing-trick is something that can turn me from Unbelievably depressed to Melancholically Enlightened. Which comes down to turning emotional agony into pure bliss by a song.

Just my contribution. Hope it does any good to you.

I think you should be the bigger man and let it go. If they want to be petty and immature, that's quite literally their problem. In the meantime, why don't you take up a hobby such as playing guitar? That's the best thing I ever did as an angsty teen. It's a useful diversion from the troubles of life and it's something that will be rewarding for years and years to come.

Your not getting enough energy out of your system, build a punching bag and hit that shit for 30 minutes, i promise you will feel 100x better. Take my word for it, days I didnt excercise at your age I could tear a grown man apart for simply looking at me wrong.

I haven't read any of the other replies, but i do know this.

You don't really exhibit the symptoms of depression. We'd need more information anyway. School stresses everyone out. No one gets excited to get older after a while. Hating everyone and crying at how depressed you feel aren't really signs of depression, just teenage angst.

Chill out with the revenge as well. You'll get your payback when you succeed in life and they go nowhere. Plus it won't matter one bit after highschool. And stop calling yourself a reject. Being a "reject" is half other people, half your own mindset. Learn to not give a fuck what other people think and carry yourself with confidence. The more you think you're depressed, the sadder you'll get.

Also, start working out. Get some testosterone in your system and start releasing all those endorphins. It's the greatest hobby of all. Not to mention all the revenge you'll dish out when those guys girlfriends leave them for your sexy 8-pack.

Next time someone throws something at you, you should laugh at them and tell jokes at their expense.. that's always the best way. Try to do it so elaborate that they don't really get the joke themselves. And do it in a nice: hey guys, my good friends.. my bestest friends, in fact, I really like you guys, kind of way.
And if theres a pretty girl close by, make sure to wink at her, especially if she's a friend of theirs.

Lots of sleep is one of the best things you can do. Many people don't realise, but when they suffer depression, it's often because their sleep isn't adding up.

Lack of sleep can very quickly make you short-tempered, depressed and often makes your mind run too quickly over little things that normally might not bother you at all.

Try it out, make sure that you sleep long enough to allow your body to get up by itself, avoid setting an alarm clock.

      Good luck man.

I can't tell you wether or not you are depressed. I'm not a doctor and all I have to go on is a few sentences.

It may or may not be hormonal. My parents thought I was just hormonal (even after I attempted suicide) and refused to do more for me than give me extra B-vitamins.

      Turns out I'm bi-polar.

If you feel suicidal or are seriously contemplating killing someone else (or even animals for the fun of it) get yourself some help. Pretty much every school has some kind of "counseler" or nurse. Go tell them, even if you hate them and are sure they will tell your parents and f-up your life. They will tell your parents and it will create some problems, but if you are suicidal or homicidal it is IMPERATIVE that you get some help.

I'm sure the point's been made by now, but I thought I'd weigh in on the matter.

I myself have what I think is bipolar disorder (rapid cycling), and can tell you that the depression phases aren't fun, and that the familiar feeling of worthlessness, globalized hatred and loathing (not just loathing yourself, but life and the universe at large), and that old sense of utmost meaninglessness in everything are characteristic of the whole experience. However, hormonal fluctuations as a result of puberty can also cause the above symptoms. Hormones, though, generally don't create these symptoms for extended periods of time, nor do they recur on a timely basis.

My method of getting rid of the depression, when I feel that I've had enough (some part of me likes the feeling for some reason), is to just do mind-clearing exercises. My mother gave me a helpful mantra: "Welcome and Release". Welcome the negative feelings and emotions, and then release them from your mind. Let your mind become empty, devoid of all thought and emotional attachment. You will hopefully experience a momentary period of inner peace, a small glimpse of enlightenment. This is essentially meditation, and if you practice more, you will eventually be able to call upon this inner peace at any time, like the buddhist masters.

However, it can be hard, and I'll be the first to admit its not as easy as it sounds (by all means though, give it a try, it can't hurt). Being on the bipolar side of the equation is making it rather difficult for me to hold down the motivation to continue. I will become extremely happy once I get out of the depressive phase, thus thinking I no longer need meditation. I convince myself I won't fall back into depression again, and I feel like I'm on a new leaf.

Invariably, though, I come crashing down. Anyways, the lesson here is to stay at it (unlike me), for ultimate inner peace. Trust me, from what I've experienced of it, its woth while. There's a few books on the matter. Eckhart Tolle wrote a good one a ways back called The Power of Now, but I'm sure there's loads others.

      Hope that helps!
