      Waking up

I CANNOT wake up on time. EVER. I've tried putting two alarm clocks as high as they can go, right next to my head on my bed. And NOTHING! What is the matter with me?!?!? I try so hard, but I just can't. I'm worried because this year I'll have to wake up after everyone in my home has left, which means I could miss the Bus!!! Thanks in advace for the help!!! :]

Thank you, but my problem is not getting out of bed, but waking up in the first place. I suppose I could try the practicing waking up repeatedly... That might help.

For me, I end up turning off my alarm clock and falling back asleep without even being aware that I'm doing this.

During the school year ( I'll be in 11'th this year) I put a alarm clock in the bathroom, & my bedroom.
The bathroom is on the other side of the house, so i have to get up to turn it off. Plus when I'm walking to the bathroom, it helps me wake up.
Maybe you can try that? Good Luck

No, he doesn't even HEAR his alarm. I'm the same way. He'll go on sleeping with a blaring alarm until he wakes up naturally or a family member wakes him. But alarms... don't work...
What if I told you that I am dreaming right now?
That your whole life is a lie?
That the laws of physics as you know them are incorrect?

Furthermore, what would you do if I told you I'm going to wake up as soon as you finish reading my signature?

I go to sleep, on a school night, at 9:30 to 10:00 PM. And hes right, I will sleep RIGHT through the alarm. But my family always woke me up, which is why I'm worried now.

I could go into a ton of detail, but having a non 24 hour daily cycle as I do, makes it very hard to wake up in the morning(or night), especially before your bodies clock says it's time. Alarms rarely work, or are all too easily silenced without really "waking up" if you DO hear them. The best luck I ever had was with a CD of glass shattering set to play at volume 14 (shakes the walls on my stereo) when I was to get up. This worked without fail, but I wonder if the neighbors ever thought someone was breaking in? There is such a thing called sleep inertia, which is sort of the amount of time your body desires to go back to sleep when you get up. Depending on how well you slept, and you in general, it can last 15 minutes to hours. I usually heard the clock, but silenced it and fell back asleep without ever "waking up" I.E. not so much being awake as a daze of shut the heck up! Not ever realizing WHY I had to get up at 8am, that I needed to go to class. I've read being startled awake drastically shortens sleep inertia to a few seconds. Which is perhaps why the glass shattering worked.

Well, if you have a few weeks of family left, have them wake you up every day (even on weekends) the EXACT same time EVERY morning. Something like 7am or perhaps earlier. (I suppose whenever you need to get up, but it works better for me in the morning) Hopefuly after a week or two your body will adjust and you will automatically wake up at those times. Also, have them wake you up LOUDLY, so it makes you jump and gets you awake right away. My mom always bangs on my door as hard as possible making me practically fall out of the bed.

For some reason this worked for me, maybe you could try it? If it starts working, then set your alarm for the time they usually wake you up, and you should be somewhat awake or sleeping lightly so that you can hear your alarm and keep the schedule.

Not everyone's internal rhythm can be entrained. See

that's my problem. Incidentally, I don't agree with having them wake you up. My opinion on this is it's possible you don't wake up because you subconsciously know that even if you don't hear the alarm, your parents will still wake you. It could be something totally different though. I'm not disagreeing with what I quoted, well I am actually but I'm not saying it's wrong. Just that my opinion differs

I agree withg Leixor. I've been being woken up at the same time for years.

In my opinion, it just takes practice to be able to get up in the morning. The more you avoid it, the easier it gets to avoid. I don't think it's normal for anything to enjoy being woken up, but if you get into the habit of it, it won't seem as bad after a while.
