      Google Wave

      Google Wave

Google Wave is an online tool for real-time communication and collaboration. A wave can be both a conversation and a document where people can discuss and work together using richly formatted text, photos, videos, maps, and more.

      (Long video is very long)

This is Google's newest launch, it's supposed to be huge.

I know at least one of you got in, how are you liking it so far? What are some good features of it?
And of course, the obligatory, any invites left?

I applied for the software, but I didn't get in. I watched that presentation a long time ago, and it looks very exciting

I'm still waiting for my email letting me know I'm in.

I got into Google Voice within a week, but I think Wave is a bit different.

Mozilla wil copy this very quickly I think and incorporate it into Thunderbird.

I watched the video ages ago, been waiting for my email.

There is already a similar thing out there already.

I might be wrong but wouldn't that be like saying the same thing about Gmail? "They'll copy it into thunderbird". Isn't one of the main points of GWave that you can access it from anywhere without a software client (web browser and Java VM aside). I just don't see what the advantage of using Thunderbird to access GWave would be.

I think you need a web browser in order to run google wave.
I suppose Mozilla could use this to their advantage by offering the best 'Google Wave' speeds. Perhaps their own add ons as well.

GWave is actually a new protocol. You can integrate it into anything.

I did actually say "web browser and Java VM aside"

"GWave is actually a new protocol. You can integrate it into anything."

Technically GWave is an implementation of the Google Wave Federation Protocol.
Sure, you /could/ integrate it into anything, but in the same vein I /could/ modify my computer so that it would also cook toasted sandwiches. There's just not really much point.

Also I was specifically referring to the suggestion that GWave would be integrated into Thunderbird, to which I am asking, 'Why?'
There's not really any reason to have an offline access / storage method for Wave as there is for email.

I believe that ninja's original point was that Mozilla was going to copy the concept, as in, make their own version of it.

That does sound like a bad idea though and kind of pointless.

      http://labs.mozilla.com/raindrop

      *edit*
seems it's not really the same as wave
      but hey...

      from the faq
How does Raindrop relate to Google Wave?
Google Wave is attempting to create a new form of messaging. We applaud their effort to innovate in the messaging space, and if it gains traction, we will be looking at ways to integrate the messaging protocols from Wave into the open, extensible user interface of the Raindrop platform. In the meantime, Raindrop is focusing on complementing existing messaging sources.

Yeah, Raindrop isn't really targeting the same problem. Still, thanks for the link. RSS+Firefox really doesn't cut it anymore so this could prove useful.

Woo! Finally got an invite, via Twitter actually. So no invites to share yet, but if anybody wants to look me up on there, feel free! I'm just playing with it a little, not that impressed so far, but then I have nobody to talk with on there really, so hit me up. sithtrap [at] gmail [dot] com

Ok, I got an invite aswell. If I get some invites to give away later on, I will make sure to mention it in here if none of my real life friends want some.

I got in yesterday, as MoS said, it's hard to really use it when there's no one to use it with, lol.

So I only have two friends to chat with, but I already have an impression that google wave is not really addequate for chatting but rather a kind of forum or something. I'm gonna spend some more time with it. Hopefully somebody will make a client so I won't have to use my browser.

My brother gave me an invite. It seems pretty cool, but I haven't used it much. If anyone wants an invite, I have a few. Does anyone know how fast you get more invites?

So I've jumped on the band wagon too - add me if you want

ash [dot] adam [at] gmail [dot] com

You can set up group chats and stuff with friends, it's kind of like MSN & email in one, you can have live chats with multiple people. You could set up a DV group in wave and start a new wave with the group

I've got it. It is very very good. I love the features. I just wish I had a good computer so that it wouldn't lag so much.

I recieved this a few months ago and I was going to test it out over the upcoming holidays. I haven't watched the extremely long video but I was hoping someone can give me a more concise version of how this works. I also have invites but I only have 8. I thought Google would give more invites since Gmail has 100. ^_^
