The nice thing about Chrome is that each tab is a separate process, so spinning javascript won't hang the entire thing.

      If I can get:

      - AdBlock
      - Flashblock
      - Greasemonkey
      - Webdev Toolkit + Firebug-like functionality

In chrome, I'd make the switch.

Opera's faster than Chrome on my machines. Strange.

Opera invented tabbed browsing, and it's still by far the best browser for it.
Also, it's got other useful features, like IRC chat, a good RSS reader and an okay mail client. And unlike the Firefox plugins, these are professionally made.

Safari feels about the same as Chrome.

I've never had javascript hang Opera. Can that even happen?

Opera never impressed me at all. Safari is terrible. As I (think I) said before, Firefox is only good because of the massive addons. If you're looking for a lightweight browser, Chrome is the way to go, hands down. If you're looking for a heavyweight, full-bundled browser, Firefox is the thing.

Btw, I really prefer Chrome's all-in-one bar thing that FF's two bars. But that is just me.

If you have enough crap added to your onload, you can make something happen. It doesn't have to be all pages, but in general, Javascript is actually single-threaded. People don't seem to know this.

On my Ubuntu, for some reason, FF is a LOT more sensitive to this than FF on Windows. Like, just typing a message to someone on facebook is unbearably laggy. But only on my Linux laptop. Not sure why. Also, any blogspot page hangs it for a few seconds while it generates I-don't-know-what on the left side. Same is true for browsing Yahoo groups.

Turn off visual effects, on older machines, Compiz effects really slow some things down.

Speed dial isn't the only thing for Opera. Mouse gestures are amazing, superior password manager, Opera Link backs up and stores your bookmarks and speed dial across all computers, and it's much more lightweight than Firefox. Sure, the add-ons on Firefox are nice, but most of them are only there to add basic functionality that Firefox lacks out of the box compared to others, and most of them are pretty useless.

I don`t know about the other browsers, but when i voted mozilla, the results came out as 100% votes for mozilla and 23% votes for IE. That was complete win.

How come there`s still people that uses it, even after this overvote?

I don't really know, i am happy though because this is the information i was looking for, how others felt about the two and various others, and how on or the other works on different OS...
      Thanks guys!

Available, available, and available. I may consider switching to Chrome or another browser in the future, but I'm quite happy with Firefox at the moment. It's scary-fast on my machine, has a lot of great add-ons, and has a nice feel to it.

Only through addon, that's not a good RSS-reader, only with separate application or through an addon.

Poorly implemented, Not as good, only through addon.

And everyone's always moaning about adds, but they don't seem to realise that Opera's "content blocker" is perfect, really, for weeding out adds.

I, too, have an ad-blocker. And I also like the third-party system for add-ons. It allows for greater flexibility. If one program doesn't work for you, switch it for something similar. Very nice.

When those features are built in, the one "program" does work for you. And there's no need to hunt for some other implementation.

It may work, but perhaps there is something that works better? Say the built-in program has a feature that gets on your nerves. You are in the minority in this case, so the feature remains. What are you to do? With FF, at least you can go and swap out the program for something of similar build and design without said irritating feature.

Can't think of what that should be... Pretty much all GUI-elements can be moved around, you can download or design custom skins, pretty much all features can be changed or deactivated. The only thing that bugs me is that it doesn't have a por- I mean private browsing feature.

Maybe we'll just have to agree to disagree. (Firefox, btw, has an excellent "Private Browsing" feature.)

I don't get what feature you are talking about. It's a virus free "private browsing" ?

It's a mode where, once you enter it, absolutely no history, no trails of evidence, are recorded. It's very useful when searching for por--I mean, shopping for family members who use the same computer.

It's not virus-free, but FF has a pretty decent security system, and if you have a good firewall, you should be pretty okay, as long as you don't download something.

Coupled with Avast! it's an awesome combination Avast! is quite good at blocking you from entering a website/file which is malicious.

True. It's what I dislike about communist complement-dependent software like Linux, FF, Trillian, and who knows what else. I mean, I want a car, without having to go around for its pieces. Few addons are nice... too many, especially to do basic things which could have been implemented in the core, are annoying.
